THEY’RE PUNTING WITH COURAGE
⭕ 2.25 York (Lonsdale Cup) Frankie Dettori won this three times on Stradivarius and owes us a decent ride on Courage Mon Ami after running Gregory into the ground on Tuesday.
The Lonsdale belt went last year to Quickthorn, who has officially improved half a stone after back-to-back wins here at York again and in the Goodwood Cup.
Quickthorn beat Coltrane out of sight in this a year ago and beat him again at Goodwood (soft) after Coltrane had finished close up to Courage Mon Ami in the Ascot Gold Cup (firm).
The outcome depends on how the race is run, and the fast ground suggests Courage Mon Ami might turn around the Goodwood form, with those preferring it softer becoming the playthings for Mostahdaf-style Dettori domination. Plunge horse this morning down to 3.4 favourite.
TUDHOPE BOOKED FOR GAMBLE
⭕ 3.00 York (Gimcrack Stakes, 6f 2yo) Charlie Appleby and Richard Hannon have won two Gimcracks each in the last seven years; eight of the 10 winners in the decade were drawn 4, 5, 6 or 7.
Haatem, the Hannon horse, has dropped back to the distance of his best form when fifth in the Coventry to Aidan O’Brien’s River Tiber but his yard has won mainly class-5 events in the last 10 days or so.
O’Brien’s runner today, Johannes Brahms (4.3 on BETDAQ), was three-lengths Windsor Castle runner-up on firm to Big Evs, who is fancied for the Nunthorpe in the very next race.
Big Evs made all the running in the Moulcomb at Goodwood and had Kylian back in third after an unsatisfactory race for Kylian, bumped at the start and hanging right in the final furlong.
King’s Gamble has raced only once – impressive on the July Course- and the Kingman colts inexperience may be offset by the booking of Danny Tudhope to do the steering. Strong support on all books this morning but 6.2 BETDAQ offers.

117 KHAADEM (7yo; stall 10): Won Group 3 (5f) at Newmarket last Spring but prefers f. Group 2 (firm) at Goodwood last July before 4th to Highfield Princess in this on good to firm (weights as today). But produced a shock 80-1 Jubilee strike at Royal Ascot (6f) in June under Jamie Spencer.
117 HIGHFIELD PRINCESS (6yo; stall 6): Last year’s winner is back in form but not at this depth. After the defeat by Bradsell, she was a length and a half behind Khaadem over 6f in the Jubilee (weights as today) before dropping to Group 2 to win readily on good to soft at Goodwood, with Equality 7th (not suited by the track).
110 EQUALITY (5yo; stall 11) See Highfield Princess. Earlier won Sandown Charge (good) from Makarova (weights as today).
109 REGIONAL (5yo; stall 7) Has climbed the ladder this year, a York handicap success in May leading to a Listed win at Haydock from Equilateral, who beat a big field here on Wednesday. Makarova was fourth.
108 AESOP’S FABLES (3yo; stall 16) Solid Listed form this year without winning. Can sweat up and drawn high.
108 DRAMATISED (3yo; stall 14) Another with a high draw, she was Breeders Cup Juvenile runner-up last autumn and beat Equilateral for the Temple Stakes at Haydock in May, but no show in Kings Sand (see Bradsell).

Lan Cinnte (out of 3), stepping up to this trip, is better than the bare form, only now fulfilling her promise – she’s ‘bone idle’, says Jessica Harrington – and with an Oaks winner on her dam’s side. Runner-up from Galway victory has boosted the form. Rain would help.
Amanzoe (stall 10) was second in this race last year but has been absent since, and you have to rely on trainer William Haggas to get her ready; 11 winners in the fortnight says ‘no worries.’ Contrast with Charlie Johnson (Sirona), who has been badly out of form.
Solid support for Reach this morning but Michael and David Easterby are currently 0-26, with a shocking six in a row beaten favourites.
