THE EDGE: The Edge previews the third T20 between England v New Zealand with a recommended BETDAQ bet.
MATCH OVERVIEW:
England and New Zealand continue their T20 series this weekend on BETDAQ Betting Exchange, and so far it’s been the Harry Brook show! When England left him out of the ODI World Cup squad it created headlines and a massive reaction on Social Media, and obviously his form since has created a huge bandwagon. I think Jason Roy is going to come into this ODI series, he’s currently rested for this T20 series, under immense pressure to score runs.
New Zealand haven’t been at their best, and they have been well beaten twice. I felt their batting would struggle given they have got their most talented line-up but their bowling has been very disappointing. They have been pumped around the ground twice now – England chased down 139/9 in 14 overs and then post 198/4. I know Harry Brook has lead the charge but the other batters haven’t exactly been held back either. England will also be delighted to see Jonny Bairstow score 86 not out in the 2nd T20, and Gus Atkinson taking four wickets. I would suggest so far this series couldn’t have gone any better for England!
New Zealand don’t become a bad side overnight, but they desperately need to re-group. They need to keep attacking too; posting 160ish isn’t really good enough against this England side so they are “better off” collapsing aiming for 180+ rather than posting a par score. The bowlers simply haven’t show up yet either!
WEATHER AND PITCH WATCH:
We hit Edgbaston for the 3rd T20, and we generally have good scoring conditions here. We should have a great atmosphere as we usually do in Birmingham, and I think whoever bats first here has to be aiming for that 180+. This is a well-known T20 ground because it hosts the T20 Blast Finals day, but they’ve actually only had six International T20’s. India played here in 2022, they posted 170/8 and were able to successfully defend that. Before that there was a huge gap because of Covid19, but England scored 221/5 against Australia. I’d expect a high scoring game, especially if England bat first.
RECOMMENDED BET:
It was nice to land our England bet on Friday evening, as I said I was surprised to see the market didn’t move after the 1st T20. I don’t regret taking a chance on New Zealand to win the 1st T20, but since then it’s been clear England are the better side here. The New Zealand bowlers haven’t performed well and with the batting not on the same level as England that has made the margins of victory huge. Once again I am surprised by the England price here – I thought they’d be lower than 1.47 and I’m happy to continue supporting them.

IN-RUNNING STRATEGY:
I’d expect a high scoring game here, and I’d be very keen to get on England if they are batting first. Additionally to that, the New Zealand batting simply hasn’t been good enough this season so I would stay away from them while batting – if batting conditions are good they might still go well, but that’s a time I’d be happy to sit out of the market. Harry Brook has been in an unreal run of form; but how long can it continue? Another fascinating game ahead but I would be keen to mainly focus on the right moments to back England here rather than trusting New Zealand who have been below par.
