MATCH OVERVIEW:
The Cricket World Cup is in full flow now, and we begin the week on BETDAQ Betting Exchange with New Zealand v Netherlands at Hyderabad. Both sides would have been very happy with their first games at the weekend. The Netherlands were beaten by Pakistan of course, but we all know that there’s a huge gulf in class between the full members and Netherlands. I stand by my opinion that they will surprise someone, it’s just hard to know when it will happen. Their bowling is their strong point, and they bowled Pakistan out for 286 but failed to chase it. To be honest, the same could happen here!
New Zealand got off to a wonderful start. They kept England down to 282/9 and chased it down in just 36.2 overs. Quite the boost for the net run rate; batting conditions looked very good at Ahmedabad but we are unlikely to have the same conditions here. New Zealand played two T20 Internationals in the Hague in the summer of 2022 – unfortunately Netherlands haven’t played a home International this summer, we had two reasonably close games there but New Zealand won both in the end.
They were actually similar to the Pakistan ODI’s that summer in the Netherlands in the sense that the Netherlands bowling did very well and their batters didn’t back them up. Bas de Leede is clearly their superstar; no surprise that he’s been given an English county deal but he’s a proud Dutchman and put in his contract he would be free to play the ODI Qualifiers for this; that’s actually the main reason Netherlands are here! I would expect Netherlands to do better than expected again, but ultimately come up short.
WEATHER AND PITCH WATCH:
Netherlands will know conditions here well having played Pakistan last Friday. They could be a little bit more successful against the New Zealand attack compared to Pakistan, but you can see them having issues with the bat again. Pakistan posted 286 all out and while that probably was a low score for two full members, you could see New Zealand winning with 260 here. Once again, I feel the game will be closer if Netherlands can bowl first.
RECOMMENDED BET:
We had very good success with our back of the Netherlands for a trade if they bowled first on Friday, and I feel we should do the same here. The market has noted how well Netherlands performed with the ball, but it still has New Zealand as the massive favourites. They are trading 1.09, whereas Pakistan were 1.06. As I said above, it wouldn’t be a shock if Netherlands won a game but it’s hard to know when that will come – they will have one brilliant batting performance at some stage! For the time being, I feel it’s better to focus on their bowling.

IN-RUNNING STRATEGY:
As I said above, I feel the strategy here is already there for us from the first Netherlands game. I’m happy to do the same – I’m a huge fan of their bowling attack and I feel that they will have success again if they get to bowl first. It’s a good idea to trade out between 10 and 20 overs regardless of how the trade goes; it might not go our way after all as the New Zealand top order looked in excellent form against England. Conditions will be a little bit more bowler friendly here though! I think the Netherlands batting will struggle when it’s their turn to bat, so you mainly want to be on the bowlers here.
