MATCH OVERVIEW:
It’s the final weekend of the group stage at the Cricket World Cup on BETDAQ Betting Exchange! We have a double header on Saturday, but unfortunately we have been robbed of any drama with New Zealand beating Sri Lanka and basically confirming their spot in the Semi-Final. Pakistan still have a chance, but they would need to win by 287 runs which is basically impossible isn’t it! That result was also of benefit to England because it left Sri Lanka in the bottom two, thus missing out on the Champions Trophy. Netherlands still have a chance to go past England should they lose here, but Netherlands will have to beat India on Sunday which is highly unlikely – India are likely to start that game 1.04 to win.
England have had a huge amount of issues at this World Cup. Their only wins have come against Bangladesh and Netherlands. Their batting has been very poor, and their bowling hasn’t been able to get them out of the holes they’ve put themselves in either. Ben Stokes finally came good against the Netherlands with an excellent century, but the England batting line-up did have a wobble before we got there! Pakistan have had their average performances themselves, but overall they have played much better cricket than England.
Pakistan will be left thinking “if only” their bowling against Afghanistan cost them dearly, and that’s not even mentioning the exceptionally close game against South Africa losing by one wicket. Pakistan could easily be top four quality, while England just haven’t been good enough at all this World Cup.
WEATHER AND PITCH WATCH:
We’re in Eden Gardens on Saturday, and it’s actually interesting to see a game here so close to the Semi-Final next week. Eden Gardens will be hosting the second Semi-Final on Thursday between Australia and South Africa. This ground has become a high scoring ground in the IPL, and as we know scoring conditions haven’t mirrored the IPL in this tournament – it’s very different playing in India during the day! The first two games here were low scoring – 229 all out won and then Bangladesh were all out for 204. India finally put a big score on the board with 326/5 against South Africa and absolutely hammered them bowling them out for just 83! I think you’d have to bat first here and try make best use of conditions.
RECOMMENDED BET:
An interesting game awaits; it’s definitely a shame it’s not a must win game for either side. I know technically it is for Pakistan, but they aren’t going to win by the amount needed so they have no chance of catching New Zealand. Likewise, it’s very unlikely that Netherlands will beat India so England can lose this game too and still qualify for the Champions Trophy. I was surprised to see England as the odds on favourites however at 1.9. They just haven’t been up to the standard required at this World Cup and Pakistan have played much better cricket. I’m going to keep it simple here, I believe we have the wrong favourite and I’m happy to back Pakistan at 2.1.

IN-RUNNING STRATEGY:
Supporting England’s batting at this tournament hasn’t been profitable at all! Even in the Netherlands win which was led by a Ben Stokes century, England went from 1.1 to 1.3 before he won the game for them. I would definitely support the Pakistan bowling if England are chasing. I do feel that batting first might provide a little edge, but even then it’s hard to support the England batting.
