CHANCES OF A SKELTON WIN
⭕ 1.05 Market Rasen Dan Skelton trains in the Midlands but punters might be surprised to learn that his winningmost tracks are on his doorstep: Uttoxeter, Warwick and Market Rasen.
He’s best known as a travelling man and a big-time player whom the betting public follow at Cheltenham and Aintree, where he’s amassed more than £3m overall in prizemoney won.
But he’s had in excess of 300 winners in the Midlands triangle from Warwickshire to Lincolnshire and the Derby/Staffs borders.
Take No Chances takes his chances back at Market Rasen, where he’s twice been beaten into a place in bumpers.
But, since then, he’s stepped up to today’s trip and scored over hurdles on another right-handed track at Huntingdon.
Strackan is still learning his trade which, on breeding, means we must wait for his best form until he runs over 3m plus.
LAYS LOGIC: The obvious worry is The Doyen Chief, who went close on his hurdles debut after winning a Point and a bumper.
Today represents a drop in class and he opened at odds on, partly perhaps because the Racing Post ratings have Take No Chances on 117 with The Doyen Chief marked him up to 133, after he ran Chocabloc (121) to a short–head at Ludlow (levels).
Don’t make sense, particularly if you also check their Spotlight, which recommends him, ‘if proving more inclined to settle and jumping with greater fluency.’
Trainer Alan King rated The Doyen Chief a future star but you are clearly taking chances today at the price: 1.47 this morning against Take No Chances at 3.75.
⭕ 2.15 Market Rasen Another big Racing Post rating went to Roger Rarebit. Who turned a deep-ground Uttoxeter chase into a procession 11 days ago.
Penalised but claimed off, he has to give a stone to Mixedwave but the novice winner here in February has always preferred top of the ground.
Brandisova is another novice who has not moved on and O’Connell has failed to add to his Point success
LISEO’S LAST RUN LOOKS GOOD
⭕ 6.00 Chelmsford The handicapper has not yet forgiven Buxted Too for winning five races out of six in the Spring.
But he’s handed out a similar mark (1lb difference) to Law Supreme, a mile winner in the French provinces, for his English debut.
Law Supreme has moved to Ian Williams from Alessandro and Guiseppe Botti, cousin and uncle of Marco Botti, who coincidentally has a runner in today’s race from his Newmarket yard: Silver Gunn, twice a winner at Windsor but 0-5 on AW. He is also off 83.
In fact, the more you look at this race, the more difficult it is to find a standout. Maybe it’s Liseo at BETDAQ 4.1 this morning.
Liseo is the only runner today for Simon and Ed Crisford, who had a double up yesterday. The stable form is 1320111, still standing.
You could say that Liseo is an improver: since winning over today’s CD, he has finished fourth over further in a higher class at Kempton for the London Middle-Distance Series Final, run out of it only close home.
⭕ 8.00 Chelmsford All eyes on the market in this 6f handicap! Monitola was a huge punt in a big-field 7f handicap at Gowran in June. Tried to make all and faded only in the last half furlong.
Will a change of stable, a drop in trip and grade and a tongue-tie make the difference, claimed off but drawn wide today? I’ll take early 9.9 on Betdaq Betting Exchange and hope to be hedging.
Another keen-goer, Revolucion will be trying to get across before the sweeping left-hander on a collision course with Big Bard from the one stall.
