MONDAY IN EUROPE: The Ultra previews ATALANTA v SALERNITANA and GIRONA v ALAVES with a recommended BETDAQ bet.
ATALANTA V SALERNITANA
7.45pm We have a cracking Monday night from Europe this week with action from Serie A and La Liga on BETDAQ BETTING EXCHANGE. Most football fans will be expecting two home wins here with Atalanta and Girona in action, and we start the evening in Serie A with Atalanta hosting Salernitana. Atalanta will be disappointed with their start to the season, and had to start this matchday sitting down in eighth. They have work to do to get into the European spots! Salernitana are having a worse season however, and Atalanta will be fully expected to win this game with Salernitana sitting bottom of the table. They are becoming a little adrift now, and things are looking more bleak for them as the weeks go by. Salernitana have been very poor going forward this season; their average xG created is only 0.90 – one of only three sides to have an average xG of under 1.0 this season. They have the fourth worst figure at the back, and when you combine the figures that makes them easily one of the worst sides in Serie A this season. Based on overall performance levels, the bottom three are Empoli, Salernitana and Verona – all three started the weekend in the relegation zone.
Atalanta come into this game as the red-hot favourites. They are trading as short as 1.32 at the time of writing with Salernitana 11.5 and the draw is 6.2. There aren’t many positives with Salernitana this season, and their away form is terrible. Their average xG created drops to 0.77 away from home. I feel this is a case of how many goals Atalanta can score rather than will they win. Atalanta have been creating a lot of chances this season – they have the fourth highest attacking figure in Serie A this season, and they should be higher up the table! Obviously with Atalanta so short here you look towards the side markets, and it’s mainly the goal and handicap markets that catch your eye. However, with Salernitana creating so little I like Both Teams Not To Score here at 1.84. It takes out the question how many goals Atalanta can score, and I would definitely have Salernitana not to score shorter than 1.84 – it’s a very nice position.

GIRONA V ALAVES
8pm Next we move over to La Liga to finish Monday night football as Girona host Alaves. Girona fans are living the dream this season; they started this matchday sitting top of the table and managed to win away to Barcelona last weekend. Their improvement is barely hard to believe; they finished sixth in the Segunda in 2021/22! While everyone expects them to fall at some point, and Real Madrid have been superb this season too, they just keep winning games. You can’t really knock Girona this season – their average xG figure at 1.57 is the joint-fifth best in La Liga. They are clearly full of confidence, but the one worry has to be that they are conceding more chances now. Their average xG conceded is 1.45 and they have been over-performing by a lot. They are sitting at +0.81 on the xG v Actual graph which is very high – the highest figure in La Liga, and indeed one of the highest figures around Europe. It would be a massive shock if they did indeed lift the title, but stranger things have happened! Leicester fans will prove that in the Premier League!
On paper, this is a game that Girona should win. They come into the game as the odds on favourites; they are trading 1.57 with Alaves 6.4 and the draw is 4.7 at the time of writing. Alaves came back up from the Segunda last season, and they’ll be very happy with their performance so far this season. They are creating more than they are conceding this season, but they have had problems taking their chances. Only Cadiz have scored less goals than them this season, but they are keeping games as tight as possible. I do feel that the 1.57 is a little short on Girona here – Alaves will set out to get a draw here and make life very difficult for Girona. The home side might be able to grind out a win in the end, and Under 2.5 goals looks a nice position at 2.2. I really thought that market would be close to 50/50, and I was surprised to see Unders trading so high – it’s worth a confident bet.
