Melbourne Renegades v Hobart Hurricanes

MATCH OVERVIEW:

The Big Bash continues on Thursday morning as Melbourne Renegades take on Hobart Hurricanes on Betdaq Betting Exchange. From Thursday, there’s less than two weeks left in the group stage and now the clock is definitely ticking for these two sides. Over the last few days there’s definitely been a top four and bottom four forming – given we have the top five getting into the playoffs, there’s still plenty to play for in the bottom four which includes these two sides.

Melbourne Renegades are currently bottom of the table, and while at first glance there’s only one point between the sides, Melbourne Renegades are in a very poor position. The way the fixtures have worked out, the Renegades have already played seven games while for Hobart Hurricanes they’ve only played five. The Renegades bowling has been an issue all season, and I can’t see them making a charge at the playoffs. It’s a different story for the Hurricanes though, they have more games to find the points but this is a must win game if they are going to have a chance.

The Hurricanes have already beaten the Renegades, chasing down 183/5 – once again the Renegades bowling let them down and it’s just hard to have any confidence in them to be honest. The Hurricanes haven’t been the most reliable side, but their batting seems to be in good touch at the moment.

WEATHER AND PITCH WATCH:

Docklands looks like a cracking venue for cricket, especially when the roof is on. So far it has paid to chase here this season; both chases have been made look pretty easy too. 162/8 was chased down with 11 balls to spare and then 177/6 was chased down with 8 balls left. It also paid to chase here last season; five of the six games here were won by the chasing side. The only game without a successful chase was the Melbourne Derby when tensions run high with the pressure. Bowling first is a no brainer here if you win the toss.

RECOMMENDED BET:

Melbourne Renegades haven’t been good enough this season, especially in their bowling department. I do feel bowling first will offer quite a big edge however, and that might bring the sides closer if Renegades get that edge. I think they need that help to be honest – the Hurricanes middle order have found some form in the last week and they are in a good place at the moment. We have a pretty even market here, and I thought Hobart would be shorter than their current 1.83. I’m going to keep stakes small here, but hopefully we can keep our winning run going.

IN-RUNNING STRATEGY:

We have two sides here with issues, and you wouldn’t be fully confident in either side. I definitely want to be against the Melbourne Renegades bowling; that has paid handsomely during the tournament and they just haven’t been good enough. The stats heavily point to chasing being an edge here, and it seems a good play to get on the chasing side at the innings break. Scoring is still good in the first innings so I don’t expect a low score; the innings break seems to be the best time to get involved.
