THE EDGE: The Edge previews Sunday’s IPL clash between Delhi Capitals v Chennai Super Kings with a recommended BETDAQ bet.
Delhi Capitals v Chennai Super Kings
MATCH OVERVIEW:
The IPL continues on Sunday as Delhi Capitals host the reigning Champions Chennai Super Kings. With CSK winning their opening two games and Delhi Capitals losing their opening two games, no prizes for who is the favourites to win on Betdaq Betting Exchange here! It’s been plain sailing for CSK at the start of the tournament, and they really haven’t put a foot wrong – the batting and bowling is firing. The only thing to say coming into this game is that it’s their first away game and obviously conditions will change, but they have the squad for all conditions.
It feels like so long ago that Delhi Capitals were topping the IPL table when we had games in the UAE and it’s a shame for them that they couldn’t lift the trophy in those seasons because they are miles away now. It feels like that was their chance – their squad was very suited to the conditions in the UAE and when they moved the tournament back to India after Covid19 they haven’t had the same standard. They finished second last in 2023, and it already feels like they will be closer to the bottom than the top this season. In fairness to them, their batting has performed well twice but their bowling looks to be an issue.
Rishabh Pant let them down against Rajasthan Royals with a strike rate of 107.69 – that was really the difference in the end and it was a middle order collapse at fault for the Punjab loss. They have an excellent opening pair, but you can definitely pick holes in the middle order and the bowling. An interesting game awaits.
WEATHER AND PITCH WATCH:
This will be the first of two (for the time being as we don’t have the full schedule yet) games at Visakhapatnam so I would go into this one with an open mind on scoring conditions. We have had IPL cricket here, but not for quite a few years. Tickets apparently sold out in minutes – interestingly enough you can still buy tickets for the KKR game here. That might highlight the pull of MS Dhoni – it won’t feel like a home game for Delhi! It’s been five years since we’ve had IPL cricket here. I would suggest the groundmen will want a good batting wicket, but we’ll just have to see how it plays.
RECOMMENDED BET:
As I mentioned above, it’s not a surprise to see CSK as the favourites here. They are trading 1.74, which is a reasonably short price in the IPL given how much talent is in all the squads. It’s hard to see past a CSK win here though, and I feel there’s a little value still on offer in the price. Their batting has been in superb touch at the start of the tournament, and then Delhi Capitals are clearly suffering with their middle order. I’m sure there’s a lot of pressure on Pant as captain, and then he also has all the questions about his fitness level too coming in off the back of injury. The CSK bowlers can take full advantage of the Delhi Capitals middle order, and that’s where they will win the game.

IN-RUNNING STRATEGY:
We obviously don’t have ground data worth studying here and forming an in-running strategy on because it’s been so long since we’ve had IPL cricket here. We had a very high scoring game here in November 2023 when Australia toured – they scored 208/3 and India chased it down too. That being said, we’ll have to confirm conditions before going forward here. The best angle I see is taking on the Delhi Capitals middle order; unless of course we have a very high scoring game! We saw 277/3 this week!
