7-2 DAQMAN BET WINS 20 POINTS: Daqman yesterday outlined the form flip required for Keldeo to score at Catterick. His analysis was spot on and the bet was a big one, giving him a profit on the day.

DESPERATE FOR CLASSIC CLUES: It’s the Dante meeting at York this week and Daqman previews the Classic trials, so essential after Guineas winners in England at 16-1 and 28-1 and France at 24-1 and 31-1.
FRIENDLY TIP NEEDS CONFIDENCE
⭕ 3.45 York, tomorrow (Musidora Stakes) John Gosden, who has won this five times in nine seasons, has not voiced pretensions of a Classic year but his Kingman filly, Friendly Soul, won friends when taking the Pretty Polly 10 days back, without much influencing people to back her for the Oaks.
Punters will need a sniff of Ylang Ylang, from the flowers of the Cananga tree – pronounced ‘eelang eelang’ and said to encourage ‘self confidence’ – if they fancy Friendly Soul toppling the Oaks favourite.
Take the 10-1 and you might get some ‘overs,’ or you might not. That’s what ante-post betting is all about, the ‘overs’ from the value offers, not about picking the winner in advance.
Team Gosden’s Musidora star last year, Soul Sister at 18-1, went on to win the Oaks at 11-4 from ‘nowhere’ in the market, but Emily Upjohn, the York winner the year before, was beaten a short-head at Epsom by Tuesday.
⭕ 3.45 York, Thursday (Dante Stakes) Team Gosden has also won this – with Golden Horn (2015) – on the way to Derby triumph at Epsom.
Sir Michael Stoute followed their lead with Desert Crown doing the double in 2022. But he’s an old hand at the Dante: that was his fifth winner.
Charlie Appleby, who took the York trial with subsequent Irish Derby hero, Hurricane Lane (2021), has the likely favourite on Thursday in Ancient Wisdom.
Ancient Wisdom was third at Ascot in July (7f good) to this month’s Guineas runner-up, Rosallion, but won the Doncaster Futurity on heavy.
The Gosdens’ Futurity third, God’s Window, was out last week, fourth to Capulet in the Dee Stakes, so unlikely to be seen in the Dante.
Aidan O’Brien ran Diego Velazquez in the French Guineas on Sunday (4th), and Chief Little Rock was only third in the Blue Riband trial at Epsom.
So maybe we will see Cambridge, the Craven Stakes third, try the extra distance of the Dante.
STRAIGHT TO THE POINT
⭕ 4.45 Beverley today Straight A’s only win in seven starts to date came on the same good to firm ground he faces here and it’s also worth noting that he ran a cracker on the same going in a class 2 at York last year when seventh but beaten by less than three lengths.
The Harry Eustace trained runner hasn’t shined on softer ground recently but as a result his handicap mark has dropped and if he can show anything like his York form then this class 5 handicap (THREE rungs down the class the ladder) should be a breeze for him.
I also like his overall profile and you get the feeling there is more to come.
The form of Knight Templar doesn’t worry me but the early money on XXXX for the Sir Mark Prescott trained runner does! The Newmarket handler is well adept at pulling off handicap plots and his runner here is clearly expected to improve on his handicap debut.
His four runs to date have seen placings of 8th, 10th, 9th, and 11th beaten an aggregate of 50 lengths.
Save if you must on him but I can’t recommend a bet at the now under-priced levels. That ship has sailed.
RAIN WILL HELP SLAINTE
⭕ 7.30 Ayr Snazzy Jazzy heads the market but hasn’t won since 2022 and even another three pound drop in the weights doesn’t entice me towards the nine-year-old who is really struggling for form at present.
I prefer the chances of the consistent mare Slainte Mhath who coped with the quicker ground OK at Catterick last time out when a close up third and a reproduction of that effort might be good enough even though the bulk of her form is with give in the ground.
However, a check of the weather forecast suggests Ayr are in for some heavy rain which will be in her favour and I can’t see them racing on good to firm ground come post time with that forecast.
I will try a WIN 20 bet.
GET THE BUNTING OUT
⭕ 8.20 Killarney Sometimes odds surprise you and that of course is the sweet spot when you need to step in.
I thought the Willie Mullins trained Bunting would be fairly deep odds on for this concluding 1m 6f race.
Twice a winner (in his native France) he has been campaigned at the very highest level since – last three races all in Grade 1 company and a switch back to the flat against modest opposition could be just the confidence booster needed.
Hovering around even money? Yes please.
