KYPRIOS: O’BRIEN SEEKS SEVEN UP
⭕ 1.15 Ascot, Saturday (British Champions Long Distance Cup) Kyprios has won the same six stamina tests that he won in 2022 but Aidan O’Brien wants to add this championship, in which he was second last year at the end of a curtailed season.
Trueshan had completed a hat–trick in this before he, too, lost out in this last year, only fourth.
The handicapper has marked his decline as follows: hat-trick completed off 123, fourth last year on 117, fourth this season to Kyprios in the Goodwood Cup (114) and second to Sweet William in the Doncaster Cup (112).
The Ascot Gold Cup day ratings of Kyprios (117) and Trawlerman (118), the one-two separated a length, is now 120 Kyprios and 118 Trawlerman for the Saturday showdown, after Kyprios beat Trueshan and Coltrane in the Prix du Cadran.
Earlier in the century this Long-Distance Cup went to a second-season animal – Capal Garmon (2001), Royal And Regal (2007) and Akmal (2009) – and to a hat-trick of four-year-olds (Stradivarius, Kew Gardens and the first Trueshan win) but whether the youngsters can cause an upset depends on the Kyprios stable of Aidan O’Brien.
Will he run one or more of Continuous, Illinois, Grateful, Grosvenor Square and The Euphrates against his own favourite?
BRING HOME THE BACOR
⭕ 2.42 Windsor today Why are the simple jobs never easy? Like finding the going at Windsor?
The course tweeted soft this morning, the BHA site said heavy and the BBC Weather forecast says heavy rain for the area. I’m typing quickly in case it gets abandoned before my deadline …..
I made the point yesterday about two-year-olds needing a bit of streetwise experience when the ground gets this testing and it paid off with Tactical Plan’s win.
I think we have a similar case here with Bacor in this fillies race over six furlongs and she could prove a spot of value against the possible Betdaq Betting Exchange odds on favourite Rikissa.
Bacor is now having her fourth start but showed her best form on her only previous run on soft when winning at Ripon – making all the running under Grace McEntee who could easily try the same catch me if you can tactics here.
Rikissa represents Ralph Beckett – that factor alone contributing to her compressed price – and she should build on her Newbury soft ground debut when third – beaten eight and a half lengths.
That was over seven and she struggled to get home, so the drop back looks sensible and it looks as though she runs here in preference to an all-weather engagement on Wednesday.
DON’T GET REELED IN
⭕ 3.20 Musselburgh Reel Her In has already shown more in two starts than when trained in Ireland but I’m not going to join the queue to back her to follow up her recent course win over the shorter 1m 6f trip.
The extra distance should help – but I’m not sure the softer ground will and she only just scrambled home last time from Rory The Cat who re-opposes today. I think we are in spin a coin territory as to whether that neck margin gets overturned.
Animato is a little less obvious but he goes well with some cut in the ground and his trainer David O’Meara remains in good form. A few starts ago he ran well at class 3 level and with a little help from the handicapper here might just be the one.
EARLY CHRISTMAS PRESENT
⭕ 6.30 Wolverhampton I think connections of Baileys Warrior must be thinking they’ve had a early Christmas present from the handicapper who has only put their mare up 3lb for a very convincing four length win over course and distance last month.
She is up against mainly out for form rivals and comfortably gets the nap vote of the day.

What are points? Points facilitate a staking plan, which is the secret to creating profit. One point is whatever you choose: a pound, a euro, or whatever ….
Start with a bank and decide how much you can afford to lose over a period of time, and determine the size of your bets accordingly. Daqman makes this variation every day.
