BREEDERS CUP: IRISH HAT-TRICK: Ireland took three of the top juvenile prizes worth £1.25m in the opening exchanges of the Breeders Cup at Del Mar, California, yesterday and today. Ger Lyons applied Magnum Force before an Aidan O’Brien double via Lake Victoria and Henri Matisse.

DAQMAN FRIDAY: back to back supernaps
WON 7-10 LAKE VICTORIA (supernap)

THURSDAY three out of three: total profit 67.24:
WON 12-1 PREMIER (win and place)
WON 5-2 CHEMICAL WARFARE
WON 8-15 L’EAU DU SUD (supernap)

GREATNESS WHATEVER HAPPENS: The best horse O‘Brien has ever trained is expected to go out there and sift more gold from the Dirt trail of Del Mar today. It will be a huge shock if he loses the race but that in itself already implies greatness.

LAST WORD on the death of Alastair Down. I was his first editor, and the word I quickly applied was ‘dedicated’. What he was sceptical of in man he enjoyed in great racehorses that did not fake courage, spirit, trust; that did not know cowardice, spite, treachery.

LUCK BE KIND TO COBDEN

⭕ 2.22 Wetherby (West Yorkshire Hurdle) Like every mug who follows the Jumps, I’m back with names imprinted on my memory which would bring the National Hunt sport alive again for another season.

Firstly, James Owen and Harry Cobden have put their heads together to send Allmankind over a longer trip. It might work. Big Betdaq Betting Exchange odds (8.7) in a small field.

⭕ 2.58 Wetherby (Charlie Hall Chase) Another old favourite, Bravemansgame, was second in this last year and a bit more wind work might have put him right. A Harry Cobden short-shot, which serves as saver for all mankind.

AMIRITE PRIMED FOR THIS

⭕ 3.45 Ascot (Autumn Gold Cup, 3m chase) Two things don’t win this: top weight and favourite. Chianti Classico is the two in one this morning. He’s a CD winner on the ground but hasn’t been seen since last April.

Kim Bailey usually gets his winners together but the last six that have seen money have missed strike like this: 2nd, 6th, 3rd, 2nd, 10th, 5th.

In the horse’s favour is that he’s won two years running first time back in October, and has scored over the Ascot CD.

Amirite comes over from Ireland with a fitness edge, and Highstakesplayer has won 4-5 chases and scored when fresh a year ago.

Neon Moon has had his first-run win and hasn’t put two races together since he was hurdling 30 months back.

Two For Gold likes the course but is on a tough mark and Kittys Light needs another mile. Master and pupil could duel it out.

That’s Paul Nicholls with Solo (chase form at Ascot 222) and Dan Skelton with Flegmatik (323 over fences here).

Hidden Depths and Mylesfromwicklow are tied together on form at a country track. BETDAQ 6.1 Amirite, 6.3 Highstakesplayer.

I’M BELIEVING IN MOORE

🇺🇸 7.41 Del Mar (Breeders Cup Turf Sprint, 5f) STATS: Results by stall: 2017 Del Mar 4, 7, 1 (12 ran) and 2021 Del Mar 3, 4, 6 (12 ran).

The draw was not good news for Cogborn (out of 9), who beat Jubilee Stakes winner Khaadem the last day, or Nunthorpe and Flying Five winner, Bradsell (12), or even Big Evs, adjacent in 11. He won the Juvenile Sprint last year, with Starlust third.

Believing was the one with the bad drawn when beaten by Bradsell in the Flying Five.

Believing under Ryan Moore at BETDAQ 10.0, is now in stall one, Starlust at 23.0 in 4.

JAYAREBE STONE IN FRONT

🇺🇸 9.01 Del Mar (Breeders Cup Turf, 1m 4f) STATS: Results by stall: 2017 Del Mar 1, 11, 3 (13 ran) and 2021 Del Mar 8, 6, 10 (14 ran).

Aidan O’Brien’s Found (2015) and John Gosden’s Enable (2018) were superstar fillies who won this but, from the same stables, Wingspan and Emily Upjohn have been struggling at Graded level against their own sex.

It says nothing for a race usually won by three and four year olds that the 2022 winner, Rebel’s Romance, now aged six, has been favourite most of the week.

Brian Meehan has won this race twice, one of them by the owner of Jayarebe (stall 5). Pulled clear of the remainder when runner-up at Deauville to impressive Dante winner, Economics, who then beat Auguste Rodin in the Irish Champion Stakes (Luxembourg 6th).

Far Bridge beat Measured Time at Saratoga in August but that’s a stone behind Jayarebe. BETDAQ 5.0 taken.

THEY CAN’T CATCH TROY

🇺🇸 9.41 Del Mar (Breeders Cup Classic, 1m 2f, Dirt) STATS: Results by stall: 2017 Del Mar 5, 11, 8 (11 ran) and 2021 Del Mar 4, 7, 3 (8 ran).

City of Troy was rated 8lb higher for this year than was dual Derby winner, Auguste Rodin, when he started his 3yo season.

To those who raised their eyebrows, trainer Aidan O’Brien insisted he was the best horse he’d ever trained.

They were raised again when the colt flopped in the 2,000 Guineas but so had Auguste Rodin and, again, the only aspect that didn’t change was O’Brien’s insistence: no, he really is the best I’ve ever trained. At 3.0 on BETDAQ this morning, that’s big value for a big boast.

Leading trainer in this Classic, Bob Baffert, four in the decade, has booked Frankie Dettori for Newgate.

Newgate was winner of the Santa Anita Handicap for Frankie in March and narrowly beaten there on his return after a long break in September.

But his draw in 13 means he will have to work hard if he is to catch City of Troy (stall 4), and I do mean ‘catch’. Ryan Moore will be told not to see another horse.

CONTENT OF A DREAM..

🇺🇸 10.25 Del Mar (Breeders Cup Filly And Mare, Turf 1m 3f) It’s six out of eight to raiders from England and Ireland, including Aidan O’Brien and Charlie Appleby.

Appleby’s Cinderella’s Dream (William Buick at 4.0 on BETDAQ) won the Belmont Oaks and the Saratoga Oaks while Content (Frankie Dettori at 5.0) was second in the Irish Oaks and won the Yorkshire Oaks.

The measure here of Soprano’s third to Porta Fortuna in the Matron at Leopardstown will be a guide to the Breeders Cup Mile.

FORTUNA FINAL FORTUNE COOKIE

🇺🇸 11.45 Del Mar (Breeders Cup Mile, Turf) STATS: Results by stall: 2017 Del Mar 5, 4, 13 (14 ran); 2021 Del Mar 2, 1, 12 (13 ran). Five out of six to English and Irish raiders.

Porta Fortuna is our final Fortune Cookie of the season; winner of the Matron, winner of the Coronation Stakes at Royal Ascot on firm ground. But her 117 rating suggests a close race, with 3lb allowance from:

122 Notable Speech (drawn 6), the 2,000 Guineas and Sussex Stakes winner, for Charlie Appleby.
119 Diego Velazquez (unbeaten 111 on a sound surface); drawn 4 for Aidan O’Brien.
117 Porta Fortuna getting 3lb for the FORTUNE COOKIES.

What are points? Points facilitate a staking plan, which is the secret to creating profit. One point is whatever you choose: a pound, a euro, or whatever ….

Start with a bank and decide how much you can afford to lose over a period of time, and determine the size of your bets accordingly. Daqman makes this variation every day.
