ENGLAND V SOUTH AFRICA: The Edge previews the 1st T20 between England and South Africa from Cardiff with a recommended BETDAQ bet.
MATCH OVERVIEW:
England and South Africa are back in action on Wednesday as we begin the T20 series on Betdaq Betting Exchange. England started the ODI series with a collapse all out for 131 all out, but despite losing the series 2-1, they finished on a high note at the weekend – they posted 414/5 and South Africa were bowled out for 72. Momentum is always the word used in cricket, and if you live by that then England have the momentum coming into this series!
Joe Root led the way with yet another century at the weekend, and England would have been absolutely delighted with the century from Jacob Bethell who received plenty of criticism coming into this series after his poor run of form in the Hundred. Obviously then too, given the ECB put domestic 50 over competition alongside the Hundred, when the ODI side lose heavily we always get that debate – and probably rightly so too. From a South African point of view, they will view the ODI series as job done and then obviously they didn’t spend long chasing the 400+! The England T20 side is always very exciting, and they aren’t going to hold back here so we should have an excellent series.
South Africa have had a wonderful summer landing the World Test Championship here, then of course they’ve now beaten Australia and England in ODI series’ back-to-back. Now let’s see how they get on in the T20!
WEATHER AND PITCH WATCH:
The sides move to Cardiff for the 1st T20, and unfortunately there is plenty of rain forecast on Wednesday at the moment. Looking at the long-range forecast, there’s a chance that the rain might be through by the time we start here at 6-30pm. We’ll just have to keep an eye on the radar for this one all day – obviously a lot can change before the start. You’d also have to expect conditions will be reasonably tricky for everyone – the bowlers they’ll have a wet ball and we can expect cloud cover too. I would keep a very open mind on what a par score here is, and we might not have the full 20 over game too.
RECOMMENDED BET:
We have very similar odds here to the ODI series. The market actually got the 3rd ODI right; despite losing the first two ODI’s they went into the 3rd ODI the shortest price of the series! England come into this one as the favourites at 1.66 which in my opinion is a little short. Obviously England absolutely hammered South Africa in the 3rd ODI, but South Africa hammered them in the 1st ODI! He reality is that there isn’t much between the sides here, and given the weather forecast I think we’ll have a closer game than the odds suggest. The value call is the South Africa bet at 2.48.
The Edge Says:
One point win South Africa to beat England at 2.48 with Betdaq Exchange

IN-RUNNING STRATEGY:
At the time of writing, we are looking at the long-range forecast but there looks to be a lot of rain around Cardiff on Wednesday. Whether or not we get a full game is debatable at the moment – I feel the best advice in that regard is to just keep an open mind especially with the conditions that were expecting too. This will be a game to watch the radar and see what opportunities pop up. You’d have to give an edge to the chasing side to be honest too.
