⭕ 3.25 Yarmouth Not often the Alan King name is attached to a two-year-old with Classic potential.
By Too Darn Hot, with the dam related to a Group-1 winner, Spyce is entered in the Futurity at Doncaster next month, won by Guineas hero Kameko (2019) and Derby star Auguste Rodin (2022) most recently.
Spyce was beaten only threeparts of a length by an Aidan O’Brien raider in the Convivial Maiden, which is class-2 like this one today.
The winner, Frescobaldi, was fifth in the Flying Scotsman at the Leger meeting at the weekend.
Kameko’s trainer, Andrew Balding, saddles Sea The Stars colt Royal Standard, who made late progress first time out at Sandown. BETDAQ 45.0 (4.2 three places)
Nova Centauri for Team Gosden was third to a Balding colt on debut, with the third horse home an easy winner of a nursery at the Leger meeting. The Gosdens also run Lighting Thunder.
Balding saddles Lifeguard (2.25) in the opening two-year-old test, dropped to sprinting after leading until the final furlong at Kempton (7f) a fortnight back. BETDAQ 26.0 (4.0 place).
RUNNING FOR BETDAQ 11.0
⭕ 5.00 Yarmouth Ollie Sangster’s Kingman filly Running Queen spent her time in Listed company after winning on the soft at Salisbury last May, with the runner-up subsequently placed in Group 2.
There was no step up for her but she had looked above average and was clearly well enough regarded to keep her in training and try for that black type. BETDAQ 11.0
Similarly, Mandurah was beaten only a length in a Group 3 and was sixth in the Oh So Sharp Stakes at that level. The Crisfords are hoping she will be transformed by a hood this afternoon. BETDAQ 12.0
STAR CAN GO WELL FRESH
⭕ 5.30 Yarmouth Jessica Macey won this sprint with Lewis Edmunds on Thunder Star two years ago on softish ground.
Goes well fresh and was just pipped a nose for a comeback here at Yarmouth in June.
The successes of Moulin Booj and Raneenn do not include soft ground. Loving Apprentice likes some cut but is up in the handicap now, where Gold Star Hero has dropped down
This is a race Robert Cowell has won twice and 20.0 Above is in the with a chance on a going day: 4.2 a place.
