8pm Friday night football from Europe comes from La Liga this week on Betdaq Betting Exchange! We have two sides who really need a win to kickstart their season as Real Betis host Real Sociedad. Both these sides have had poor starts to the season; Real Betis have only managed six points from five games while Real Sociedad have yet to win a game with two draws from their four games. Real Betis were clear sixth best in La Liga last season, but they have work to do to stay in those Europa League spots after a lacklustre start.
Real Sociedad finished ahead of Real Betis in 2023/24 to get into the Europa League, but they had a shocking season in 2024/25. They missed out on Europe altogether to finish down in eleventh. They really struggled in front of goal – they finished the season with an average xG created of 1.12 and couldn’t even convert those limited chances, finishing with less than a goal a game on average. They weren’t too bad at the back with an average xG conceded of 1.2, but obviously all the problems were up front.
Real Betis had much more success up top, and they actually finished last season with the third best attacking figure. Obviously Barcelona and Real Madrid were miles ahead; but that was still very positive from a Real Betis point of view. It does make the start to the season a little disappointing though; especially considering that they haven’t had a tough fixture list. They’ve played Elche, Alaves, Celta Vigo, Athletic Bilbao and Levante. They should really have more points on paper – Elche, Alaves and Levante will likely be involved in the relegation battle this season.
Real Betis come into the game as the favourites at 2.1 with Real Sociedad 4.0 and the draw is 3.6 at the time of writing. Real Sociedad had to play Real Madrid last weekend, but we can forgive them losing that fixture! Much like Betis, it is bitterly disappointing that they could only get two points from three games against Valencia, Espanyol and Oviedo. Unlike last season though, they have been creating plenty of chances. Their average xG created over the opening four games is impressive at 1.84!
We should have a good game here, and I’m happy with the Betis lay at 2.1 from a value point of view. It’s quite easy to pick holes in both sides given their lacklustre starts to the season. However, I just feel that this game will be closer than the odds suggest, and I wouldn’t have Betis as the clear favourites at 2.1 in what should be a close game.
