TAKING BACK THE YELLOW JERSEY: Daqman was on the ball yesterday when he napped Nico De Boinville’s return ride at Stratford, five months after Nicky Henderson’s jockey was injured at Easter. Nico, who made all for his Twiston-Davies neighbours, has his first Henderson ride back on Ile De Jersey at Chepstow on Saturday.

WON 5-4 THE EXPENSIVE ONE (nap)

HAWK THE BALLYDOYLE BEST

ANOTHER Ballydoyle hawk! Minnie Hauk lost nothing in defeat from the one stall in Sunday’s Arc. Now I fancy the colt to fly high for Aidan O’Brien next year is Hawk Mountain.

I’m already determined on their Diamond Necklace as my top two-year-old filly for the 1,000 Guineas and Oaks of 2026, after her sensational Marcel Boussac victory.

Now I fancy Hawk Mountain for 2,000 and Derby, one of the last sons of Wootton Bassett out of British Champion (Fillies And Mares) Hydrangea.

Diamond Necklace is by St Mark’s Basilica, winner of the Dewhurst, which is run at Newmarket on Saturday.

Hawk Mountain was a big mover for the Dewhurst after winning the Beresford but O’Brien has chosen the Doncaster Futurity (October 25) or a trip to Saint-Cloud as alternatives.

Coventry winner, Gstaad, second in the Morny and the National, will represent Ballydoyle in the Dewhurst but would have to win a rematch with Eve Johnson Houghton’s unbeaten Zavateri, who beat him a head in the National Stakes.

IT’S A WRAP AT BRIGHTON

⭕ 5.15 Brighton The final race of the season at Brighton sees a very competitive seven furlong handicap bring the curtain down.

King Of War brings recent winning form into the race having won over course and distance last week but makes limited appeal under his statutory 5lb penalty for what was a hard fought short head win and it’s also a switch from good to firm to good to soft today.

A couple at bigger prices make some appeal on the Betdaq Betting Exchange.

Blue Collar Lad has been running consistently well including a course and distance third here last time out. He’s no world beater but enjoys cut in the ground and the handicapper has dropped him another pound.

A Pint Of Beer is more speculative. His all-weather form has tailed off but interesting to see trainer Scott Dixon switch him back late in the season to the grass. He’s well handicapped on his best form which includes two course wins last season and as we know it can be a quirky course for quirky horses!

ALL YOU NEED IS LOVE

6.30 Southwell After Love made a winning start for George Boughey when winning over course and distance here last month. If anything, this trip might be on the sharp side for her but she should be able to follow up in this company and land the nap.

Moostar makes her first start for James Owen and was a six furlong winner for Darryll Holland at Thirsk last year. Her form since has been modest and she wasn’t strong in the morning market trading.

NEVER ENDING STORY

⭕ 7.30 Southwell Two hat-trick seekers go head to head in this stayers handicap with preference having to go to the recent form of Universal Story.

She is 2-3 since joining Jennie Candlish with both wins coming over 2m+ but she shouldn’t be inconvenienced by this slight drop in trip and had plenty in hand when winning well here last time out.

Tamaris also seeks a third win on the bounce but has been off the track since April 2024 and despite the absence gets no relief from the handicapper. The market might be the best guide but that wasn’t looking positive with a drift from 3/1 to around 9/2 during morning business.
