DAQMAN’S HIGH-FLYING WEEKEND: Daqman swapped an Eagle for a Hawk yesterday, following Hawk Mountain in Saturday’s Futurity with Arrow Eagle in the Prix Royal-Oak. He napped Hawk Mountain (18-5) and Alnilam (9-4) and named 20.0 BETDAQ offer Leloopa in a weekend of winners.

TOMORROW: Final flings on the Flat.

ARROW EAGLE HAS LANDED

AIDAN O’BRIEN duly scooped the Group-1 two-year-old tests in France yesterday but the new star to emerge at Saint-Cloud was a Cup colt for 2026.

It was always on the cards that Arrow Eagle, half-brother to last year’s Arc de Triomphe star Ace Impact, would need yesterday’s step up in trip.

In fact, he was still looking for his extra gear in the final furlong of the Prix Royal-Oak (2m) before finally engaging a late burst and going clear.

It looked a strong marker for Cup races over further in Europe next season, with horses behind Jean-Claude Rouget’s four-year-old including the 1-3-4 in this year’s marathon Prix Du Cadran, Caballo De Mar, Queenstown and Sunway, plus the dual winner of the Royal-Oak, Double Major, who seemed set for the hat-trick but was run out of it in the last 140 yards.

Puerto Rico won the International for Ballydoyle ‘very comfortably’ while Pierre Bonnard ‘went clear’ in the Criterium de Saint-Cloud, both ridden by O’Brien’s deputy chien, Christophe Soumillon.

The pair brought O’Brien’s Group-1 total for the season to 25, with Pierre Bonnard edging in front of Futurity winner Hawk Mountain for Derby market leader and Puerto Rico new Guineas favourite.

EASTERBY IN RECORD BID..

WHILE the trainers’ title has already been won for winners (Andrew Balding) and prizemoney (Aidan O’Brien), the northern star-stable has still to be decided.

Karl Burke has stormed his way into the nation’s top half-dozen with £3.5m won but is dead-heating on 122 with fellow Yorkshireman Charlie Johnston for winners.

However, both are currently short of the 126 total of Tim Easterby, who represents an historic dynasty an hour and more east from the Middleham bases of Kingsley Park and Leyburn, across the magic valleys and dales to the Malton area.

Numerically, Burke and Johnson are up from 121 and 119 wins last year, but Easterby has burst clear, needing 10 to beat his record total 2021.

Easterby had 32 entries this week: 13 today at Redcar and Newcastle, 13 tomorrow including Catterick, two on Thursday, 16 on Friday

Compare with Johnston (18 including at Redcar and Newcastle) and Burke (only nine in England), with just two locally at Redcar today. Here’s my pick in their Cock-o-the-North title battle:

Start with a bank and decide how much you can afford to lose over a period of time, and determine the size of your bets accordingly. Daqman makes this variation every day.
