FA CUP THIRD ROUND SATURDAY: The Striker previews TOTTENHAM v ASTON VILLA and CHARLTON v CHELSEA both with a recommended BETDAQ bet.
TOTTENHAM V ASTON VILLA
5.45pm We have a hectic Saturday on Betdaq Betting Exchange with the Third Round of the FA Cup! As you would expect on a Saturday of the Third Round, we have absolutely everything on offer – massive miss-matches, very short prices, very competitive betting heats and stand out high quality fixtures. There’s something for everyone in the audience! In my opinion, the two most interesting games come later in the day, and we start with an all Premier League clash as Spurs host Aston Villa. It’s been a very busy schedule for the Premier League sides recently, and it will be very interesting to see what the managers do with their starting XI’s here – it does make betting at this stage of the FA Cup quite tricky in fairness. The FA Cup has definitely gone out of fashion recently, especially with the bigger sides – that being said, from a Spurs point of view they desperately need something good to happen. Can Thomas Frank actually afford to exit the Cup at this stage? He might actually have to be name his strong starting XI – it’s probably more interesting what Unai Emery might decide to do here. Both sides dropped points midweek in the Premier League.
This is the type of fixture where you could see some big market moves before kick-off. Especially on team news, it’s a case of fastest fingers first. We have a very open betting heat. At the time of writing, Spurs are trading as favourites at 2.62 with Aston Villa 2.84 and the draw is 3.55. I’m definitely keen to keep stakes small here – it’s actually quite easy to pick out the negatives with both sides. Aston Villa have grinded out an insane amount of results this season given they only have a mid-table attacking figure. They have found themselves in a very strong position for Champions League football, and I feel Unai Emery will opt to rest players here. From a Spurs point of view, they have been woeful – they are in the bottom five on attacking figures and while they over-performed at the start of the season, they’ve been dropping down the table like a stone – another loss midweek against Bournemouth too. I do feel Spurs will name a stronger XI here though, and I can see why they are favourites. I do feel things will all balance out and we’ve see a close game here, and the draw is worth a small investment at 3.55.

CHARLTON V CHELSEA
8pm We finish Saturday with Charlton hosting Chelsea – it’s been many years since this was an all Premier League clash, but fans might remember Charlton challenging for a Champions League place in 2003/04 before they sold Scott Parker to Chelsea and finished the season poorly. That was around the time Chelsea had first started the Abramovich era! At least the FA Cup throws up some old clashes, even if the top sides don’t take it fully seriously anymore until the latter stages. Charlton have struggled since relegation after the 2006/07 season – they’ve been through multiple ownership changes. Chelsea obviously have had their own ownership issues in recent years, and their managerial merry-go-round has continued this season too! We didn’t see a new manager bounce midweek as they lost 2-1 away to Fulham – they’ve slipped down to mid-table and while the race for Champions League football is clearly still wide open, Chelsea have found themselves with a lot of work to do. They probably need Liverpool to start dropping points again. It’s hard to pinpoint what’s gone wrong with Chelsea this season; at one stage you could have called them the main challengers to Arsenal – since that they’ve been quite poor.
The loss against Fulham mean Chelsea have only won once in their last nine Premier League games. In normal circumstances, you could say that Chelsea would opt to rest players here – I’m not sure they will do that given the situation. Especially with the change in management. It’s no surprise to see them come into the game as the hot favourites – there’s been a massive gulf in class between the Premier League and Championship in recent seasons. Charlton have been struggling in the Championship this season too. Chelsea are trading 1.43 with Charlton 8.2 and the draw is 5.2 at the time of writing. Charlton sit in 19th in the Championship, and that’s where their average xG created puts them too. It’s hard to see them troubling Chelsea here to be honest, and while I’m keen to keep stakes small given it’s only the Third Round – as I said above, I do feel we’ll see a strong Chelsea XI and the 1.43 looks a shade of value here.
The Striker Says:
One point win Chelsea to beat Charlton at 1.43 with BETDAQ BETTING EXCHANGE.
