BULL’S-EYE TARGET IN THE SURREY NATIONAL: Daqman explores the facts and figures behind the Surrey National form at Lingfield today and comes up with a trio of bull’s-eye bets. He has a nap and another win-50 target at Wolverhampton tonight.

COBDEN MAY MISS TRIALS

Kicked out. Harry Cobden, who missed Saturday’s Jonbon revival, first major ride since his signing by owner J P McManus, may not be on a racecourse this week.

It is now revealed that he was kicked after the fall that put him out of action at Ascot and may now miss the last Cheltenham trials day on Saturday, a mini-festival in itself.

His agent said Harry would have a quiet week and would not be drawn on whether he will be fit in time for Saturday.

Kicked on. The 11-year-old Protektorat turned the Windsor feature chase into a Sunday procession, and topped a million in prizemoney, with trainer, Dan Skelton, saddling five winners on the day, a double at Windsor and a treble at Fakenham, to take his score for the season to 120.

His total earnings of £2.8m compare with just £282k from four strikes for Willie Mullins, whose big scoring chance flopped when Il Etait Temps fell behind Jonbon.

IVANE THE IMPROVER AT 31.0

⭕ 1.50 Lingfield (Surrey National): After tailing off in the Welsh National Trial, Sporting Ace has been dropped down a pound lower than his mark when winning this Surrey version last season.

In fact, in three completed chases since that day, he has been beaten a total of 134 lengths though, be warned, his three autumn starts before last year’s victory saw him a total of 72 lengths off the winners.

Trainer Neil King has made two strikes in the new year already, one of them a gambled-on favourite.

After six wins in a row for J P McManus, mudloving Aworkinprogress was never travelling, favourite for the Chepstow trial.

Makinyourmindup, a modest fourth then, has first try at a marathon trip today after long lay-off and wind surgery.

Devon National winner in December, Art Decco is higher in the handicap than he’s ever been.

My Silver Lining, third and fourth in Midlands Grand Nationals, third in the Berkshire National, the grey mare has not won since her Warwick Classic two years ago but is now below her mark that day.

Dan Skelton ups Hidden History in trip, targeting the NH Chase at Cheltenham after his November win at Aintree, and he gets the soft ground here that he needed when favourite for the fifth time in a row at Sandown in December.

Invincible Nao can be quirky but Caoilin Quinn handled him well to win the Sussex National last February. Going easily when mistake in the London National last month, which contained the Welsh National runner-up and the Somerset National winner.

Val Dancer landed a soft-heavy hat-trick at this time two years ago, and is just 4lb higher than when he afterwards won the Welsh Grand National.

Connections weren’t keen on the Liverpool National but the eight-year-old’s third in the Becher Chase in December may have reopened the option.

Ivane clear second in the Lincolnshire National, is an improver for James Owen, 9lb higher than when winning the Durham National the only time ridden by Jonathan Burke, one short of 50 with a four-timer on Friday. Ivane is his sole ride today.

Catch Catchfire Borders National fifth, the money horse when unseating at Warwick the last day. Unexposed.

Surrey Quest, well named for this, third in the Edinburgh National a year ago before first-fence fall in the Scottish version at Ayr. Festooned with aids.

Betdaq Betting Exchange 6.7 Hidden History, 6.9 My Silver Lining, 12.5 Val Dancer, 14.5 Invincible Nao, 25 Sporting Ace, 31 Ivane (Daqman’s short list).

WARRIOR IS THE MAIN CHANCE

⭕ 1.20 Lingfield Caoilin Quinn, who rides the local horse Invincible Nao in the Surrey National, may already have scored on stablemate Cayman Dancer who, as a four-year-old, gets almost a stone from most of this field.

⭕ 7.00 Wolverhampton Billy Loughnane, who has just ridden six winners in six days’ racing, rides Zoulu Warrior for Heather Main, with the jockey and trainer striking at 83% on this track.

⭕ 7.30 Wolverhampton But Billy has a long-standing date with Lodge, an unexposed, well-bred filly making her handicap debut. Betdaq 11.0
