Qualifier: Perth Scorchers v Sydney Sixers

MATCH OVERVIEW:

It’s crunch time at the Big Bash on Betdaq Betting Exchange ! We kick off the playoffs on Tuesday night as Perth Scorchers and Sydney Sixers meet in the Qualifier. This is basically the golden ticket fixture with the winner going straight to the Final on Sunday. These two sides have been historically very strong in the Big Bash so it’s no surprise that they finished first and second this season – they actually went three seasons in a row starting in 2020/21 with the two of them taking up the top two spots. You actually have to go all the way back to the 2018/19 season for the last time Sydney Sixers finished outside the top two! That season they finished in third!

They needed to win a crunch Derby match against Sydney Thunder to get into the top two this season – obviously we’ve had a huge season in Australia with the Ashes being the focus – but what a massive boost for the Sixers when you can bring in someone like Mitchell Starc to your starting XI! He bowled superbly well, and then you also have Steven Smith coming into the team too firing his way to a century! Sometimes, the players who dragged the team through the tournament can feel a little hard done by when the stars rock up for the playoffs, but nobody is leaving Mitchell Starc or Steven Smith out of a side!

Perth Scorchers have mainly gone down the route of having no major international star and that’s probably why they’ve been so consistent given how busy the Australian squad are. They are an exceptionally strong side, especially at home, and we’re going to have a fascinating game here.

WEATHER AND PITCH WATCH:

We’re at Perth for the first Big Bash Playoff, and scoring conditions have been difficult here this season. Obviously a lot of water has gone under the bridge since we had the first Ashes Test over within two days here! The scores this season have been 113/5 (11 overs – chased), 150/8 (chased), 153/8 (won), 127 all out (chased) and 130 all out (chased). Apart from the 113/5 in 11 overs, you could easily call this a low scoring venue this Aussie summer. It’ll be interesting to see what the winning captain does at the toss, but the stats this season would say you have to bowl first.

RECOMMENDED BET:

We’re going to have a very competitive game here with two top class sides. Perth are usually very strong at home – however, they’ve “only” won three of their five games here this season. I’m keen to keep stakes small because I do see this as a very 50/50 game, but I feel the value is with Sydney Sixers at 2.16. I know they are relying on some big performances from their stars while the Perth Scorchers are a more well balanced side, but Mitchell Starc here should bowl exceptionally well and Steven Smith has been in incredible form with the bat. I’m happy to take the 2.16 from a value point of view.

IN-RUNNING STRATEGY:

I wouldn’t be surprised if we had plenty of swings in-play here. Two very strong sides and I feel the best advice is to not get married to be a position too early. However, I do feel bowling first will offer an edge here – I actually feel that edge might be big enough to decide the game. While I see it being a 50/50 game and I like the Sixers as the value; I do feel the best in-running trade will be supporting the side that bowls first. Scoring has been difficult here this season and I don’t see that changing too much.
