SUNDAY BBL FINAL: The Edge previews Perth Scorchers v Sydney Sixers with a recommended BETDAQ bet.
Final: Perth Scorchers v Sydney Sixers
MATCH OVERVIEW:
It’s Final time at the Big Bash on Betdaq Betting Exchange ! Perth Scorchers and Sydney Sixers do battle in a repeat of the Qualifier at Perth on Tuesday – perhaps fitting that these two are in the Final having finished first and second. Sydney Sixers finished level on points with Hobart Hurricanes, but obviously Mitchell Starc and Steven Smith coming into the side have taken them to another level for the Playoffs. That being said, Perth Scorchers were able to deal with them quite easily on Tuesday so it’ll be interesting if we see a repeat of that!
Smith has been in absolutely superb form with the bat since joining up with the Sixers after the Ashes – even in the Perth Scorchers defeat, he still top scored with 37 runs, the problem was no one supported him and the Sixers ended up 99 all out. Perth Scorchers have been top class right throughout the competition – they are always a very settled side without many big Aussie stars coming in like we have with the Sixers, and they will be delighted to have home advantage for the Final too.
We should have a cracking game here. I felt we’d see a very close game in the Qualifier on Tuesday, but it was actually one way traffic as the Perth Scorchers dominated. There’s no getting away from the fact that in order to get the job done, Mitchell Starc and Steven Smith are going to have to do a lot of the heavy lifting for the Sixers. The Perth game plan is obvious – stop them and win the game.
WEATHER AND PITCH WATCH:
Scoring conditions haven’t been great at Perth this season. Obviously we had the crazy 1st Ashes Test here that was over in two days, and that seemed to set the tone for the series! The first inning scores in the Big Bash this season have been; 113/5 in 11 overs (chased), 150/8 (chased), 153/8 (won), 127 all out (chased), 130 all out (chased) and 147/9 (won). Apart from the 11 over game, we haven’t seen the batters win the day really. Chasing has been favoured during the group stage, but then Perth Scorchers defended the 147 so easily on Tuesday. I feel it’s actually a hard decision what to do at the toss.
RECOMMENDED BET:
Perth Scorchers went into Tuesday’s game against Sydney Sixers as the favourites, and they’ve moved in a little in price. I had a small bet on Sydney Sixers as the “value” option at 2.16, and now you can get ten ticks bigger at 2.26. I really don’t feel that there is that much between the sides here – obviously I fully accept that the Sixers are relying on the big two but they are in superb form. Perth also have a fantastic record with home advantage – all that being said, I still feel a small bet on the Sixers is a nice option here. I just expect the game to be closer than those odds suggest – hopefully they can perform better than Tuesday!
The Edge Says:
One point win Sydney Sixers to beat Perth Scorchers at 2.26 with Betdaq Exchange

IN-RUNNING STRATEGY:
With it being tricky to know what to do at the toss here, I do feel you have to go into this game with an open mind on in-running trading. As I said above, scoring has been tough at times this season – I actually don’t see a massive edge whether you bat or bowl first. I’d be keen to support Steven Smith with the bat though – he has been on fire with the bat and if someone supports him from the other end he can change the game.
