COPPA ITALIA THURSDAY: The Ultra previews ATALANTA v JUVENTUS with a recommended BETDAQ bet.
ATALANTA V JUVENTUS
8pm The Coppa Italia Quarter-Finals continue on Thursday night, and we have a cracker on Betdaq Betting Exchange! Atalanta host Juventus in what is surely the clash of the Quarter-Finals; although next week Napoli hosting Como is also an intriguing affair. It’s no surprise that we have a very open betting heat here – Juventus come into the game as the favourites at 2.72 with Atalanta 2.98 and the draw is 3.25 at the time of writing. Both sides have been playing better than their results suggest in Serie A, so we should get a high quality game here.
After the weekend, Juventus sat in fourth, ten points behind Inter Milan who are seemingly racing towards the title. They should be putting pressure on Inter in the title race – they have the second best attacking figure with an average xG created of 1.88 and they also have the second best defensive figure with an average xG conceded of just 1.06. They are only 0.12 behind Inter on attacking figures, and then there’s quite a gap to the rest. Juventus have been clearly second best this season; so why haven’t they got close to the title race? They aren’t taking all their chances in front of goal. Scoring goals and creating chances have been in a major issue for Juventus in recent seasons – they’ve fixed the creating chances problem, now they need to start converting their chances.
Atalanta have also been under-performing in front of goal. They have the fifth best attacking figure in Serie A but they’ve been sitting in mid-table all season. A Cup fixture might suit them because they can be a bit more open and adventurous. However, they have been failing to convert their chances too this season. There are signs that they are improving though – they’ve put together six games in Serie A without a loss. They’ve only lost once in their last nine Serie A games, and that was a 1-0 loss to Inter Milan so no shame in that. I actually feel both sides are in a good place at the moment, and you could make a strong case for both of them to be honest. They are both playing some very good football.
The draw will make a lot of appeal to plenty of punters at 3.25 in what should be a tight game. It will be interesting to see how cagey Atalanta will be here – Under 2.5 goals is the favourite at 1.81 but we do have a tonne of attacking talent on the pitch. Juventus have also been very strong at the back, so I don’t have a very strong opinion on the goals market here. Unders feels the right favourite looking at the stats. On balance, it’s hard to get away from a small position on the draw here at the odds in what should be a very close game.
