HUNTINGDON LISTED ACTION: Daqman makes Huntingdon his main port of call on Thursday for their two Listed races featuring two likely short priced favourites. He’s with one, but against the other. Read all about it ….
MURPHY’S LAW: Oisin Murphy is set to ride Constitution Hill on his Flat debut at Southwell on February 20. Trainer Nicky Henderson has still not ruled out a return to hurdling depending on how the flat run goes.
ADD PAGGANE TO THE LIST
⭕ 2.00 Huntingdon Mares’ Chase (Listed Race) The first of two Listed races on today’s Huntingdon card should go the way of the Betdaq Betting Exchange market leader Paggane who is comfortably clear of her five rivals on official ratings.
The seven-year-old, trained by Faye Bramley has the considerable assistance of Harry Cobden in the saddle. He partnered the mare to comfortable wins at Carlisle and Market Rasen before she finished third last time out in a similar race at Doncaster.
It looks a match on paper between her and Jasmine Blues who won a couple of class 4 events over hurdles and made a pleasing chasing debut at Kempton when third to Barlovento on Boxing Day. That was a good start but on balance she needs to improve further to trouble Paggane who I was expecting to be quite firmly odds on but was hovering at just over evens on the morning Betdaq market.
FRANKLY, SINNATRA BETTER VALUE
⭕ 3.10 Huntingdon (Sidney Banks Memorial Novices’ Hurdle Listed Race) Official ratings will again guide you to the favourite Act Of Innocence but it’s far from conclusive as he is only rated 1lb clear of Sinnatra and represents very limited value at likely odds on.
Nicky Henderson’s Act Of Innocence finished two and three quarter lengths in front on Sinnatra at Newbury in November and on the same terms and ground will be considered by many a penalty kick to do so again.
It’s never that easy though… Sinnatra has ‘won’ since – the inverted commas because he was 1/8 at Sandown to win a really mediocre maiden hurdle and duly did so by a margin of 55 lengths!
Possibly more significantly though Act Of Innocence was turned over at 2/7 on his return to Newbury in December. It wasn’t a bad run by any means and the winner Minella Yogo has gone on to run well at Cheltenham on Trials Day.
However, it does just leave me wondering whether Act Of Innocence hasn’t improved as much as one could have reasonably been expected from his first start over hurdles.
OSCAR’S BACK!
⭕ 7.00 Huntingdon Our old friend Aisling Oscar is back in action after a long break (for him) of 14 days !!!
He brings a remarkable SEVEN wins in-a-row but all of his wins have come at Newcastle and the handicapper has punished him harshly for his latest half length win – a whopping 6lb rise in the weights which might well spoil the party.
This looks better than a class 5 on paper and Aisling Oscar will find life tougher, despite his admirable battling qualities.
Previous course and distance winner Bajan Bandit looks massive in the market at a morning 9.8. He was third in a class 3 handicap last time out and is now down two grades and also down a pound.
