FUTURE FORM BETWEEN THE LINES: ‘Unlucky losers’ and the game of consequences. When Wellington Arch was second at 25-1 on Saturday, he bumped into a Grade-1 horse in a handicap, and the ratings will now decide the fate of both. When The Wallpark (2nd 12-1) took part in the late stages of a race at Navan won in the same ownership yesterday, he was flagging up a big future; yet form analysis declares only the winner ‘impressive.’ Warning to punters: races are not run for you, and form must be read between the lines.

LAYS LOGIC AGAINST FAVOURITES: Daqman spots outsiders across the cards today at 10.0 and 37.0 and opposes two Betdaq Betting Exchange morning favourites with some Lays Logic.

VICTORY DANCE OVER VANGO?

Lancashire hot-pot! Racehorse owner Jayne Brace could outdo Everton manager David Moyes’ famous red-carded display of emotion when she runs Holokea in the Grand National Trial at Haydock on Saturday.

But there will be no penalty for her leaps and whoops of victory or near-miss, such are the kicks she gets from the superb form of her seven-year-old improver, whose form figures in the last year of 2221222 tell only the stats of the story.

Trained and ridden by members of the Bowen family – Peter and Karen, Mickey, James and champion Sean – he has always looked on the brink of fame as he steps up in trip.

Holokea has won Points, a bumper, a hurdle and a chase, his rating always on the incline from 109 to 124, after his close neck defeat in the Stayers Chase at Cheltenham in December and second again, stepped up to Saturday’s trip on the soft the last day.

Holokea is set only 9st 2lb but the top rating, L’Homme Presse, won’t run after his Denman Chase effort and the top-weight (up 10lb and more from his 154 mark) is likely to be Mr Vango.

Mr Vango has won the Devon National, London National and Midlands National, and bagged the Peter Marsh at Haydock in January.

⭕ 2.00 Catterick Sean Bowen goes to Catterick today (35% there) for one ride. Oneinthewell is a lone raider from James Owen’s Newmarket yard, first time over this longer trip, first time in a visor. BETDAQ 10.0 this morning was too big.

AN EXPENSIVE FAVOURITE..

⭕ 3.00 Catterick The two CD winners, Born In The West and Bathgate, both Yorkshire horses, are set to do battle from handy marks in the handicap created by a 12st top-weight.

Bathgate won here last January over just short of 2m, then the last day – this January – was stepped up to 2m 3f plus, and scored for the fourth time for Joe Williamson, who can still claim 3lb over the same trip today. BETDAQ 4.4.

Born In the West has only ever scored at Catterick and is up 10lb for a December-January double.

LAYS LOGIC: Morning favourite, Marlacoo, has been tried in tongue-tie (second at Chepstow; unplaced at Cheltenham) then with visor added (third at Warwick) but has been very expensive to follow, favourite all three times.

MAGNOLIA IS SET TO BLOOM

⭕ 4.30 Catterick Born In The West’s yard goes for a hat-trick with Haarar, who beat Bathgate last February. He’s finished in the first three for 10 consecutive starts.

Haarar has a 7lb penalty after a six-day break since scoring easily at Carlisle, and Magnolia is more interesting at a price, keeping it in Yorkshire again.

Claimed-off Magnolia, successful back to back over today’s trip at Kelso in the autumn, weakened out of his next two starts, both over further. Returns to 2m today and was too big at between 33.0 and 37.0 this morning (6.0 two places).

IT’S A KILLING WITH CANNON

⭕ 4.45 Plumpton LAYS LOGIC: An interesting finale here, with hot form lined up against a Dan Skelton favourite.

The yard has fair but not spectacular course returns, and his Rene’s Walk is still trying to reach a place, unfancied the last twice (8th and fell) at 28-1 and 40-1.

Tom Cannon, whose top track is Plumpton, has current form of 111101, still standing, with winners from 8-11 to 50-1 in his last six days with seven rides.

He has a tough consignment to get sometimes unwilling Kill The Groove home but came close here two weeks ago when the six-year-old was dropped back to 2m here. BETDAQ 6.5

David Pipe is also on the crest of a wave, with his February results 114110, still standing for three days racing. Penn Avenue 5.9 on BETDAQ.
