11-2 DAQMAN KEEPS ON WINNING: Though he dropped a couple of points yesterday Daqman had a good strike with Innamorato (WON 11-2) on top of a hat-trick of naps and profit of 38 points from winning days Monday to Wednesday.
TODAY: Bowen v Skelton jockey clash at Chepstow; Nicholls hot at Fakenham; but a classy chase at Kelso.
TOMORROW: the Grand National Trial at Haydock, a Grade-1 chase at Ascot, Kingwell Hurdle at Wincanton (⚠️ inspection), plus AW meetings at Lingfield and Newcastle.
MERCI KEY TO TRIUMPH
Chepstow card Sean Bowen has six rides at Chepstow this afternoon Harry Skelton three, with the score at the top of the table no contest (190-94) but with both striking at around 25%.
Skelton should get off the mark with Bossman Jack (1.40) but his key ride of the day is Triumph Hurdle Festival fancy Merci Mam (2.10), a €520,000 buy from France.
Olly Murphy’s Eaton Anne (3.45), in form for Sean Bowen over hurdles at this time last year, was always going to be a chaser. That career is launched today. Betdaq Betting Exchange 9.7.
HE BEATS THE FAVOURITES
⭕ 2.20 Fakenham Paul Nicholls is red hot after a break, with three out of four, still standing, at Taunton yesterday. The good news; only one was favourite.
Nicholls has a 37% strike rate at Fakenham and Swinging Safari can return to Wincanton form (on soft) in December. BETDAQ 8.5.
There’s no knowing whether soft ground will suit The Boss Bear in his low-level hat-trick bid and Ionian is a bit short at a shade of odds-on this morning; needs to improve on his Sandown second of a fortnight ago.
MAX RETURNS AT KELSO
⭕ 3.00 Kelso Class-2 race of the day! King Of Answers won over the CD in December but cheekpieces are on after the disappointment at Windsor last time.
Empire Steel loves Kelso (form figures 112131), with all four wins coming at this time of year.
Can he stay competitive at age 12, getting a stone from a topweight of the same age with similar penchant for Kelso? In fact, Elvis Mail has won six times here, hurdles and fences (13112243111).
Bill Baxter was hiked 11lb to 137 last Spring after winning a Listed chase at Punchestown and he ran second to Haiti Couleurs in a Newbury hurdle in the autumn.
But his sixth in the Becher Chase over the Grand National fences in December seemed to leave its mark or revive an old problem.
He struggled at Market Rasen in January and promptly had wind surgery, which he last had in the same year that he won the Topham, also over the National fences. There’s an obvious pattern.
Ex-champion Brian Hughes is third in the jockey’s table with 86 winners, just in front of Harry Cobden.
His mount, Maximilian, has never been out of the frame and, though his chase form – all seconds – does not seem as good as his hurdles returns, he’s been rated 135 for both. BETDAQ 7.6.
