Delhi Capitals v Gujarat Titans

MATCH OVERVIEW:

The IPL continues on Wednesday as Delhi Capitals host Gujarat Titans at the Arun Jaitley on Betdaq Betting Exchange . This is a cracking mid-week fixture that has plenty of intrigue; Delhi are two from two while Gujarat are under pressure having lost their opening two fixtures. It is too dramatic to call this a must win game for Gujarat so early in the tournament? Losing the first three games would leave them adrift and as we all know, things happen very quickly in franchise cricket. Gujarat have lost two tight games; you wouldn’t say that they have been playing bad cricket, but they have just missed out in the big moments.

Delhi have been the opposite almost – they have found a way to win while not playing as well as they could be. Their top order has been lacking – KL Rahul has made scores of 0 and 1 in his two outings so far this season – he is badly in need of some form with the bat coming into this fixture. At least the other opener, Pathum Nissanka, made a score with 44 last time out. The major positives for Delhi is that their bowling has fired – arguably the most impressive performances with the ball given the scores they have limited sides too – and obviously their middle order has bailed them out twice. Surely the openers will fire at some point!

Gujarat could easily be two from two, but they haven’t put everything together yet. The opener against Punjab Kings at New Chandigarh was a painful one; restricted to 162/6, they had Punjab wobbling at 118/6 only for Cooper Connolly to pull off a stunning unbeaten 72 and win it. The Rajasthan loss went to the wire and they lost too -the absence of their captain Shubman Gill, who was ruled out with a back spasm at the last moment, was a big loss. The good news for Gujarat is that assistant coach Parthiv Patel confirmed the injury is not serious and Gill should be available here – that is a massive boost. This should be a close game.

WEATHER AND PITCH WATCH:

The Arun Jaitley is usually a good place to bet. Scores here last season were very high, we actually saw a score of 278/3 in the final game here last season. We opened with a score in the low 160s this season though. It looked on the slow side by IPL 2026 standards so far. I would 100% go into this game with an open mind on scoring. Also, don’t forget the air pollution situation we have in Delhi these days. There is a yellow weather alert in Delhi at the moment. Obviously another major factor is dew.

RECOMMENDED BET:

I know Delhi have won their opening two games, but I do feel the 1.85 looks a little short here. Gujarat carry the pressure of no wins from two games, plus a late injury scare with Gill. However, if Gill does return – and indications are he will – this Gujarat side is loaded with class. Plus as I said above, they are playing good cricket, just not getting over the line in games. KL Rahul’s wretched form at the top of the order does worry me a little for Delhi, and I’m happy to back Gujarat at 2.12.

IN-RUNNING STRATEGY:

I have to say, it’s hard to have a set in-running strategy here with conditions up in their air. It’s hard to trust the surface – very high scoring last season but a low score by today’s standard first up this season. Chasing has offered an edge in the tournament to date; perhaps that is the best angle here – I’d probably wait until the innings break too. With both sides capable of losing early wickets, there should be plenty of market movement to exploit.
