866-1 DOUBLE FOR MAGIC MARCO: Sardinian jockey Marco Ghiani, the one-time champion apprentice, had a big day at the office yesterday when he won the fillies’ Classic test, Nell Gwyn Stakes, on Azleet at 50-1 and completed an 866-1 double in the handicap at the end of the day.

FIVE FOR DAQMAN: Daqman has landed five winners this week, including Damysus (WON 9-4) yesterday.

HAGGAS HOLDS THEM AT BAY

⭕ 1.50 Newmarket Low numbers continued to dominate yesterday; but Oisin Murphy on Double Rush (from 12) showed supreme confidence in the opener and ran right away on the side nearer the stands. That strike can be upgraded.

Seven winners of this 6f handicap out of the last nine have been drawn in single figures, and that far side is likely to be towed along by Sovereign Spell (4), who took hold of a race at Wolverhampton and galloped away from them. I expect him to lead from his low mark. Back and lay.

But William Haggas, who saddles Albaydaa (2), burst back with a winner yesterday. So, too, Stuart Williams (Ironwill out of 6 offered at 9.3) in a big way with the Nell Gwyn winner.

Charlie Appleby’s Treanmor (3), described as straightforward (!) when he won last Spring, has been gelded since being beaten twice at Meydan in January.

The ‘snip’ helped stablemate Silent Applause (5) to land the odds at Haydock in August but ‘he’ was then overwhelmed in a small-field Listed.

Ryan Moore has an interesting ride on the experienced Sayidah Hard Spun who, in stall 8, separates the Richard Hannon pair Lebron Power and First Legion.

I can’t resist Albaydaa on breeding: Pinatubo out of a half-sister to Fairyland and Now Or Never. Betdaq Betting Exchange 7.1 as I write.

QUIN RATES A FIVE-STAR BET

⭕ 3.00 Newmarket (Abernant Stakes) The first race will tell us more of what to expect from the draw in the Abernant.

But in the last nine seasons, winners by stall have been 4, 6, 7, 1, 2, 6, 5, 6, 7 from fields of all sizes.

In the high draw is Commonwealth Cup winner Time For Sandals (11) and Aramram (12), winner of the Cammidge Trophy at Doncaster, when Jasour (handy in 4 today) went a bit too soon and looked tasty at 12.5 on BETDAQ this morning.

Washington Heights scored from gate 6 two years ago and he’s back in the same stall today, but has improved only 3lb since then to 107.

Contrast with last year’s winner, Sajir, brought over by Andre Fabre for this £53k prize: the entire afterwards won a Group 1 at Deauville and finished the season on 119.

Sajir has had a run back and is one to watch out for in a possible French raid at the Guineas meeting at Newmarket.

Quinault (stall 5) is today’s Abernant top rating under man-in-form Marco Ghiani. BETDAQ 5.0.

Dual winner here in his younger days, Quinault gets further but showed he was still fast and tenacious when scoring in Qatar in February, earning three times today’s pay packet!

AVICENNA THREAT TO HAWK

⭕ 3.35 Newmarket (Craven Stakes) Once the recognised stepping-stone to the 2,000 Guineas – Dancing Brave was its most famous winner – but it fell out of fashion and only Haafd (2004) has gone on to score at Newmarket in May.

Native Trail (2022) for Charlie Appleby and Field Of Gold (2025) for Team Gosden both followed up at the Curragh in the Irish 2,000.

Appleby’s unbeaten Frankel colt Hidden Force represents the Godolphin ‘boys in blue’ today, but beat a 92-rated at Kempton in December and had only 87-rated Venetian Prince to beat on the same course in March. Oxagon also looks weak for the Gosdens unless transformed by cheekpieces.

Avicenna could be the danger to Hawk Mountain, who made all in both the Beresford at the Curragh and the Futurity at Doncaster.

Despite running green, as a late May foal, Avicenna beat Hankelow (107) – withdrawn today – in an autumn Listed. BETDAQ 9.5.

What are points? Points facilitate a staking plan, which is the secret to creating profit. One point is whatever you choose: a pound, a euro, or whatever ….

Start with a bank and decide how much you can afford to lose over a period of time, and determine the size of your bets accordingly. Daqman makes this variation every day.
