ARC-STAR DARYZ ROMPS HOME: Any way you want it! Despite dropping to a trip nearly half a mile shorter, Arc de Triomphe winner Daryz for Francis-Henri Graffard (jockey Mickael Barzalona) cruised to victory in the Prix d’Ispahan at Longchamp yesterday in its first running as the Prix Aga Khan IV. In another Group 1, Newmarket trainer George Scott won the Prix Vicomtesse Vigier stamina test with Caballo De Mar (Oisin Murphy) in a five-way photo-finish.

SKY HIGH FOR REVENGE

⭕ 2.55 Haydock (Cecil Frail Stakes) With the soft ground here a worry, I’ve swerved all bar this old friend of a Listed, turning mainly to Goodwood where it is drying out.

The score in this race is 9-9 between 3yo and 4yo but Rosy Affair won the Prix De Meautry at Deauville (soft in August) and George Boughey’s mare cannot be ignored, though now five.

Sky Majesty won five out of seven from August 2024 to August 2025, one of them a Group 2 at Chantilly on heavy.

She’s had the run back – which was needed last year – finishing three lengths behind Rosy Affair, but that was on firm at Newmarket.

Half Sovereign’s five out of six last year included a Chantilly Group 3 on very soft but she has made no impression in two recent runs in France.

VENETIA ON HANDY MARK

⭕ 3.42 Goodwood When Venetia won at Ascot earlier this month, she beat two last-time winners; what’s more, she made all the running, a good sign when you’re drawn low at Goodwood.

The trip was shorter than today but Venetia is daughter of a 1m 6f Listed winner and has a very handy mark here.

Compare with Miss Dolly Rocker, a stone higher than when she won here last June, and Sibling Rivelry 10lb higher than for her Goodwood success in a small field last August.

Orionis is by Sea The Stars out of a Wootton Bassett mare, sister to French Derby and Champion Stakes winner, Almanzor, and is probably best of the top weights, quite ‘big’ at 6.6 this morning.

JOIN HAATEM FAN CLUB

⭕ 4.17 Goodwood (Festival Stakes) Famous for his fan club of followers, Craven Stakes and Jersey Stakes winner Haatem held Enfjaar (4th) in the Wolferton at Royal Ascot last summer.

Enfjaar had been runner-up in the big-field Chesterfield Handicap here at Goodwood in July the previous year.

Karl Burke’s grey Ice Max had spent most of his career over a mile or so, until stepping up to 10 furlongs at Chester recently, well outclassed by dual Derby winner Lambourn.

Stablemate Boiling Point has also tried to move up from handicaps and has been placed twice at Group-3 level.

KISS CAN HIT THE BULL

⭕ 4.52 Goodwood Some 80% of winners come from the low-four stalls, and Kisskodi (1) has done best on sharp tracks at Epsom and Brighton, and should enjoy Goodwood. The same applies to Crimson Spirit (3).

Mister Bluebird (2) is running into form but spoiled his chance in this race last year when he dwelt at the start, which is fatal at Goodwood. Fouette (4) seems better suited to the second half of the season.
