WORLD CUP GROUP B: The Ultra previews CANADA v BOSNIA-HERZEGOVINA with a recommended BETDAQ bet.
🏆 World Cup 2026 🏆
🇨🇦 Canada v Bosnia-Herzegovina 🇧🇦
8pm Group B gets up and running on WORLD CUP 2026 Betdaq Betting Exchange! as it’s Canada’s turn to take centre stage as the co-hosts open their home World Cup against Bosnia & Herzegovina in Toronto. As I touched on in my Group B preview, the fact that it’s Bosnia sitting in this fixture rather than Italy is a story in itself – the four time world champions were dumped out on penalties in the playoffs, and it’s Bosnia who get their chance instead. Switzerland are the odds on favourites to win Group B; Canada will view this as an absolutely must win game. Canada are trading 1.87 with Bosnia 5.0 and the draw is 3.7 at the time of writing.
Canada were handed their place back in February 2023 as co-hosts, so there’s none of the qualifying drama here that you got with some of the other sides. This is only their third World Cup and, after a winless Group stage exit in Qatar in 2022, the pressure is well and truly on to finally deliver some points in front of their own fans. It’s hard to know what to expect from them given they didn’t have to go through qualifying. They face a fairly tough test in Bosnia here because they will be hard to break down. They finished second behind Austria in their qualifying group and then came through the playoffs the dramatic way, beating Wales and then Italy on penalties to book their spot. It’s only their second World Cup and their first since 2014, and the legendary Edin Dzeko leading them out at 40 years of age is one of the better stories of the whole tournament.

Given they were able to hold Wales and Italy to draws on the way here; they are more than capable of holding Canada and I wouldn’t be rushing to take the 1.87. The big team news is all around Alphonso Davies (pictured below) too. Canada’s captain and best player has been struggling with a hamstring problem on the back of an injury hit season. That is a real blow, because Davies plays for Bayern Munich and is the man who makes this Canada side tick. For Bosnia, it’s all about Dzeko, who remains the focal point even at 40 and was scoring big goals right through qualifying. Their goal will mostly be to defend and focus on set pieces; it works well for them and they aren’t going to change here.

As I said in my Group B preview, I’m very strongly of the view that Switzerland win this Group, which makes this the real battle for second place – and both these sides know it. Bosnia are exactly the kind of team you don’t want to run into in a tournament opener; they’re hard to break down, they’re happy to sit in, and they’ll soak up pressure and hurt you on the counter. I actually said in the Group B preview that I could see Canada and Bosnia cancelling each other out when they meet, and nothing about this one changes my mind. There’s two bets I like here; the draw in the match odds market at 3.7 and Under 2.5 goals at 1.75. I couldn’t put anyone off either bet to be honest. Bosnia are built to keep it tight, Canada are without their main spark, and there’s an awful lot of pressure on the hosts not to lose their opener in front of their own supporters. I’m happy to opt for Unders in what should be a classic cagey, nervy opening game.
