This should be a very interesting game; Sweden couldn’t have started the World Cup any better with a 5-1 hammering of Tunisia, while Netherlands drew 2-2 with Japan. The Dutch fans have been the one of the main stories of the opening week. They will roll into Houston in their thousands again and you would back them to make NRG feel like a home fixture. The shame for them is that the team did not match the supporters with a 2-2 draw against Japan – I felt a draw was a fair result. Van Dijk, Depay, Gakpo and Frenkie de Jong all carry the quality to win this Group, but we have seen Netherlands fluff their lines at major tournaments before. It will be very interesting to see can they deal with Sweden here – obviously they turned things around under Graham Potter in the UEFA Playoffs, but they were woeful in qualifying beforehand.
They were very impressive against Tunisia though. They were clinical, they were organised, and the front line looked sharp from the first whistle – Isak and Gyokeres are a genuinely frightening pair when they click, and Sweden carved Tunisia open at will. It was the kind of performance that announces a side; I actually thought Japan might finish ahead of them in this Group to be honest. Confidence will be sky high, and obviously they will arrive in Houston knowing a win here would put them in pole position to top the Group. To be honest though, a draw would be a cracking result for Sweden too. It will be interesting to see how Potter approaches the game; he doesn’t usually set his side up to just defend.

Obviously there is a little gulf in class between the sides here, but I wouldn’t be rushing to take the 1.75 on the Netherlands. That looks a little short, and I know their squad is stronger but Sweden have two absolutely superb strikers and Netherlands conceded twice against Japan too. Sweden will fancy this after their opening result, and I can see Potter setting his side up to attack the Dutch. I feel the sides will gel together well here and we’ll have an entertaining end-to-end game. Over 2.5 goals is trading 1.93 and Both Teams To Score is one tick bigger at 1.94. I couldn’t put anyone off either bet to be honest, but Both Teams To Score is my pick at the odds. As I said, I feel we’ll see an entertaining game here; more than the market expects anyway!
