CRACKING CARD AT TIPPERARY: On the day all eyes will on Camelot in the Arc, Tipperary stage an excellent mixed card.
The nap won yesterday, Fisher, sorry about the price. When the favourite Top Man Michael was withdrawn the price collapsed to 1/4 in what was always a two horse race in the betting.
Aidan O’Brien has a four-pronged attack on the Arc and the story of the week has been Frankie Dettori’s switch to Camelot as Joseph O’Brien can’t do the weight.
The ground has been described as anything from very soft to heavy this morning which isn’t necessarily going to be in Camelot’s favour. Many will argue his Irish Derby win came in desperate ground, which it did, but the question is whether he can be most effective, at the highest level, in this ground and I have my doubts. The Arc is also something of an afterthought as he was campaigned primarily for the Triple Crown attempt at Doncaster and has had a (relatively) hard season. Stablemate St Nicholas Abbey has never encountered ground as testing as today.
At Tipperary there’s a cracking eight race card in prospect – but the races look really tough.
In the Group 3 Concorde Stakes at 2.35 there is little to choose on the official ratings between Custom Cut, Lady Wingshot and Yellow Rosebud.
Yellow Rosebud enjoys a 3lb turnaround in the weights with Lady Wingshot who beat her in a Group 3 over course and distance last time out but I just fancy that Lady Wingshot had something up her sleeve that day and showed a nice turn of foot suggesting she might be able to confirm the form.
