Unless you’re lucky enough to be at either game, I doubt any football fan will be far from a sofa and television on Sunday. The Merseyside derby gets the action underway and then we’re treated to Manchester United’s trip to the league leaders.

For the first time in a while Everton have a genuine chance of wrestling the Merseyside bragging rights from their local rivals. Nikica Jelavic has given David Moyes’ side a legitimate goal threat, which is something they’ve not had for the past few seasons. They have always been tough to breakdown and when you add in some flair players it’s not hard to see why they are having an excellent season.

One key player has been Marouane Fellaini, but he will miss the derby and that’s a massive blow for Moyes. He gives the Toffees an out option and his ability to hold the ball up and bring strikers into the game is second to none.

I thought Everton were unlucky at Loftus Road on Sunday as Steven Pienaar’s second yellow was very soft.

Liverpool are not without their injury problems and they continue to find life tough in front of goal thanks to a distinct lack of strikers. The Reds only knocked one past Reading and with only Luis Suarez up top I fancy them to struggle. Everton can take the three points on the back of their better attacking options and a stronger back four.

Both Chelsea and Manchester United struggled in Europe in the week, although Sir Alex’s side scraped a win from two goals down. There are major concerns in the United back four, even though Rio Ferdinand was rested ahead of Sunday’s game.

I was surprised to see that United have conceded first in eight of their 12 matches this season and they’ve not played a side in Chelsea’s class yet. If that happens again in West London, I cannot see the Blues being so generous.

The Blues have been electric going forward with Roberto Di Matteo in charge and they’ll cause all sorts of problems for the visitors. United can match Chelsea in the attacking department, but not in the defensive battle.

Juan Mata and Oscar were excellent against Tottenham and they can dominate a United midfield that doesn’t take control of many games, especially on the road. John Terry returns to his ban and they’ll miss him, no doubt, however the Blues have had the run of things over United at home in the league.

Chelsea have already beaten Arsenal and Tottenham, by Sunday night I suspect United will be added to that impressive list.
