GRADED ACTION AT FAIRYHOUSE: Small but very select fields are the order of the day at Fairyhouse in the four graded races.
12:35 Bar One Racing Juvenile 3-Y-O Hurdle (Grade 3) (3yo, Class 1, 2m, 5 runners): Our Conor produced a fine debut effort over timber when landing the odds at Navan. He deserves the step-up in class, had ability on the flat, and should make it two out of two here but odds-on looks too tight and I’m only interested in evens or higher.
1:05 Bar One Racing Royal Bond Novice Hurdle (Grade 1) (4yo+, Class 1, 2m, 6 runners) Willie Mullins saddles half the field but NOT the likely winner. Minsk andf Jezki are both huge rivals to the Mullins’ trained favourite Champagne Fever who sluiced up on his hurdling debut having won both the Cheltenham and Punchestown Festival bumpers. It might be Minsk’s day today. He won an Irish Cesarewitch and was also impressive in landing the odds on his jumping debut.
1:35 Bar One Racing Drinmore Novice Chase (Grade 1) (4yo+, Class 1, 2m 4f, 5 runners) We didn’t learn too much about Dedigout on his chasing debut (2/9 fav won by 34 lengths) except for the fact he remains hugely promising and coped well with the larger obstacles. Today is D day for Dedigout but he won a Grade 1 over hurdles and I don’t want to be against him today.
2:40 Bar One Racing Hatton’s Grace Hurdle (Grade 1) (4yo+, Class 1, 2m 4f, 5 runners) Voler La Vedette is an admirable mare who won this last year but she has also now been beaten in her last four starts – twice at odds-on – and most notably at 1/7 last time out when Whatuthink stole the race from the front. I’m not convinced and she has three serious rivals today so it’s the lay button for me here.
