SHAMROCK IS ON WEATHER WATCH: Unfortunately Thurles is off tomorrow and Fairyhouse need some luck to get their Saturday card on.

Thursday’s meeting at Thurles has been cancelled due to the current spell of wet weather.

The track is suffering problems with the ground after recent rain and the forecast is not due to improve.

Horse Racing Ireland has announced that the cancelled meeting at Thurles on Thursday will now be staged on Wednesday, February 13 to form a two-day fixture.

However, the programme for both days has now changed.

The meeting on Wednesday will consist of seven races, an all-hurdle and bumper card, while the meeting on Thursday will have six races over fences.

Fresh entries for both meetings close at 12 noon on February 7.

Meanwhile, Fairyhouse’s general manager Peter Roe admits the course will “need a bit of luck” with the weather ahead of this weekend’s meeting.

The County Meath venue is due to stage a seven-race card on Saturday, with the feature Dan Moore Memorial Handicap Chase saved from a meeting abandoned at the track earlier this month.

However, conditions are already extremely testing and more rain is forecast. Irish Turf Club officials will check on the ground on Thursday, two days before the meeting, as is standard practice in Ireland.

Roe said: “The forecast is very bad and we’re just going to have to keep watching things day by day.

“We’ve had a good bit of drying today but there are showers forecast for the next couple of days and then we are forecast up to an inch of rain on Friday.

“The hurdle track is in better shape than the chase track at the moment, so we’ll see.

“We need a bit of luck.”
