HOW THE RIVER RAN DEEP: Daqman’s French-Derby verdict named Constitution River (WON 12-5) to ‘take the wide outside and move in for a late run’. He also picked Manila Scouse (2nd 18-1), beaten a neck at Thirsk.
TODAY AND ALL THE WEEK: the Epsom Derby.
O’BRIEN: OPEN SEASON
🎩 It’s Epsom Derby week. Then Royal Ascot is just around the corner. But French and English trainers looking for glory got a Chantilly choker yesterday. Group events for three-year-olds look destined for Ireland.
The second and third in the French Guineas, Komorebi and Hankelow, were 10th and 13th behind Constitution River and the O’Briens’ ‘gang of four’ who dominated the Prix Du Jockey Club yesterday.
The Ballydoyle drubbing was despite supposed disadvantageous draws for Constitution River (15) and Hawk Mountain (11) while Komorebi and Hankelow were in gates 7 and 1, and – though blessed with stall 3 – the Craven Stakes winner and Newmarket Guineas 6th, Oxagon, was 12th of the 16 runners.
Sole eye-catcher outside the frame was Daryz’ half-brother, Daryzan, who got within three lengths of the winner from a double-figure stall in only the second race of his life.
One lifeline: the French Derby was run very fast on good ground, and different conditions can have different results.
This week the debate about the Epsom-draw effect will be mixed with the effect of heavy rain due from this afternoon but it will be hard to oppose Benvenuto Cellini.
Ryan Moore’s ride on Constitution River was a masterclass but – in the old cliche – you can’t come without the horse and the ultimate debate is likely to be whether Benvenuto Cellini is as good.
TRIBUTE’S PLATE PLOT
⭕ 3.52 Lingfield Business as usual. Ryan Moore has just the one booked ride before Epsom: Mrair on only his second start for George Scott.
⭕ 4.35 Newbury Cieren Fallon, who scored on James Owen’s Naval Tribute in April, is reunited with the five-year-old for only his second try at 2m.
He was looked after by his boy in an apprentice handicap at Ascot, raised to this trip, but got it well enough and may yet be on course for the Northumberland Plate at the Pitman’s Derby meeting.
⭕ 5.10 Newbury Highly tried in Listed events last Spring, Bintabuha is within a pound of her winning mark at today’s level and looked promising for her new stable the last day.
She is now with Harry Charlton, whose current form is eye-opening: 1011310331 from his last eight days with runners. BETDAQ 11.0 taken.
PARTY NIGHT WITH MO
⭕ 7.15 Windsor Kevin Ryan’s grey Mo Of Cairo travels down on a solo mission for the Yorkshire yard, with Silvestre De Sousa booked at Betdaq Betting Exchange 11.0 this morning.
Always in the first four as a two-year-old, the grey colt has needed his outings in the North this Spring to set him up for a party tonight.
⭕ 8.00 Wolverhampton We could see a decent filly emerge from this maiden, with Seven Sisters (Ralph Beckett) likely to improve from her Salisbury second, two lengths in front of subsequent easy winner, Dream Camp.
But King Of Earth ran Langstone to a neck at Doncaster before that one was runner-up in a big field for the Silver Bowl on Saturday.

What are points? Points facilitate a staking plan, which is the secret to creating profit. One point is whatever you choose: a pound, a euro, or whatever ….
Start with a bank and decide how much you can afford to lose over a period of time, and determine the size of your bets accordingly. Daqman makes this variation every day.
