IRISH RACING RESUMES WEDNESDAY (weather permitting!): Wednesday’s first meeting of the season at Leopardstown must pass an 8am inspection on Tuesday morning.
The nap, Yellow Rosebud, was a little disappointing in second yesterday but we recovered when the only other bet of the day, Alpinist (next best) won the finale race at 13/8 and capped a great day for Jim Bolger.
Hopefully we will be back at Leopardstown on Wednesday but parts of the track are currently unfit for racing following heavy rainfall in the Dublin region.
The safety limit has consequently been reduced to 13 runners for the seven-furlong Spin 1038 Handicap and the course will inspect at 8am tomorrow.
Meanwhile, Aidan O’Brien faces a race against time getting Kingsbarns fit for the Qipco 2000 Guineas after the unbeaten colt suffered a setback.
The Ballydoyle trainer has revealed that the Racing Post Trophy winner was forced to miss important work after he developed a foot infection.
Kingsbarns was unable to join many of his big-race stablemates in a post-race workout after racing at the Curragh on Sunday.
“He’s missed 10 days of work and you’d have to be worried about him for the Guineas,” said O’Brien, who had brought some 70 horses to the track.
“For our horses going to the Guineas without a run, they really needed to be here (at the Curragh).”
Favourite Dawn Approach is now trading at 3.0 on BETDAQ, with trainer Jim Bolger repeating his assertion that the colt was in “awesome” form.
“I had to put something out and I thought awesome worked very well – he’s still awesome,” he said.
