CLONMEL AND NAVAN: Two Irish meetings on Friday evening and SHAMROCK has bets on both cards.
No shortage of runners at Clonmel this evening – eight races and field sizes of 21,21,21,21,21,17,17 and 21 !!!
Despite the big field in the opener at 5.10 few can be considered to have a serious chance.
It’s interesting to see the reappearance of Catamongdepigeons after an absence of 416 days but a more reliable proposition is Bally Longford. A bumper winner at Downpatrick, he shaped well on his hurdles debut over course, distance and ground when second in a big field to Elijah Gardner. A repeat effort may easily be good enough to land this.
In the 6.25 at Navan Aidan O’Brien’s Wilshire Boulevard is likely to be a warm favourite again. He’s in my bad books after being beaten over course and distance last week when I napped him.
He was only beaten a short head, but the third was close up too and I’m not sure I want to weigh in again at short odds as Candy Apples could be a real danger.
She ran a belter on debut when second to the long odds-on Michaelmas (also trained by O’Brien) at the Curragh and given the winner has a Group 1 entry in the Phoenix Stakes the form looks smart already.
I wouldn’t be at all surprised if Candy Apple prove strong enough to beat Wilshire Boulevard tonight and at the respective prices definitely makes the most appeal.
SHAMROCK’S BETS:
