The AEGON Championships at Queen’s Club is typically used by some of the world’s best players ahead of the Wimbledon Championships that start later this month and one of today’s quarter-finals between Argentinean Juan Martin del Potro and four-time winner here Lleyton Hewitt promises to be a decent encounter.
Former world number one and Wimbledon champion Hewitt may now be aged 32 and ranked 82nd in the world but he has proved these grass courts help bring out the best in him with an impressive win over sixth seed Sam Querrey in the last round. That saw the Australian reach the last four of a tournament for the first time this season.
However, he is up against one of the most powerful players on the tour in the shape of del Potro, a former US Open champion, who savaged Britain’s Dan Evans 6-0 6-3 inside an hour in the last round. He’s bounced back from serious injury to climb back up the rankings and he should have too much for the old boy Hewitt.
