Spain’s Confederations Cup group campaign begins with what looks to be its hardest test, as they take on Uruguay tonight.
Vicente Del Bosque’s men are looking to improve on their third-place finish in 2009 and must fancy their chances of getting off to a flyer against these opponents. Uruguay have never beaten the reigning world and European champions.
Spain have not lost for 22 games, with their last competitive defeat coming to the United States in this tournament’s 2009 semi-final. La Roja top their World Cup qualifying group and are poised to sew up a place at Brazil 2014..
Uruguay, semi-finalists South Africa three years ago, are a long way off the direct qualification places, and are also under pressure to hold on to the play-off spot that is theirs as it stands.
Back-to-back wins, and clean sheets, for Oscar Tabarez’s men in their past two will give them some confidence but they’ll need star strikers Luis Suarez and Edison Cavani on form.
They won’t have it all their own way but Spain still rate a confident selection to win at around 1.65 on BETDAQ.
