SHAMROCK PREVIEWS THE FINAL DAY OF ROYAL ASCOT: It’s already been a great week for Irish trained winners and SHAMROCK hopes for some icing on the cake on Saturday. However it’s the quietest day of the week for Irish trained runners.
It’s got tougher on the tipping front as the week has gone on at Royal Ascot.
Mind you it was inevitable that I’d hit the down slopes of the roller coaster after naming the first four winners on the opening day !
Let’s hope for a winning final day:
2:30 Chesham Stakes (Listed) (2yo, Class 1, 7f, 21 runners)
With Adeste Fideles being a non runner we are down to just two Irish trained runners in the opener. Both would appear to have good place chances and at BETDAQ odds on the place market we can back both of them and guarantee a profit (assuming one is placed that is !!). Jim Bolger thinks a lot of FREEDOM SQUARE who lost his maiden tag over six furlongs last time out at the Curragh and should be suited by the extra furlong here. Aidan O’Brien’s FRIENDSHIP was third to Glory Boy on debut at Listowel over today’s trip and is expected to improve a lot for that run.
SELECTION: Freedom Square (PLACE) and Friendship (PLACE)
3:05 Hardwicke Stakes (Group 2) (4yo+, Class 1, 1m 4f, 9 runners)
No Irish trained runners
NO SELECTION
3:45 Diamond Jubilee Stakes (British Champions Series & Global Sprint Challenge) (Group 1) (3yo+, Class 1, 6f, 18 runners)
Well done to Ascot for assembling a truly international line-up. Half the field are trained outside the UK. It’s a race that doesn’t have a good record for favourites and remember it was by only the narrowest margin that 1/6 favourite Black Caviar scraped home by last year. I hope I’m not wrong but I don’t see any of the Irish challengers being good enough to win this for assorted reasons. The one with the best place chance is GORDON LORD BYRON who ran well from a low draw at York last time – he has some form to find with Society Rock on that run.
SELECTION: Gordon Lord Byron (PLACE)
4:25 Wokingham Stakes (Heritage Handicap) (3yo+, Class 2, 6f, 29 runners)
No Irish trained runners
NO SELECTION
5:00 Duke Of Edinburgh Handicap (3yo+, Class 2, 1m 4f, 19 runners)
No Irish trained runners
NO SELECTION
5:35 Queen Alexandra Stakes (Conditions Race) (4yo+, Class 2, 2m 5f 159y, 20 runners)
Hopefully the meeting can end as it started – with an Irish trained winner. It will be down to sole Irish trained runner CUL BAIRE who looks one of the more likely ones to appreciate this ultra marathon trip. He has already won a bumper over two miles and comes into this after staying on well over 1m 4f to win last time out at Leopardstown.
SELECTION: Cul Baire (WIN, NAP)
SHAMROCK BETS SUMMARY:
2.30 Freedom Square (PLACE) and Friendship (PLACE)
3.45 Gordon Lord Byron (PLACE)
5.35 Cul Baire (WIN, NAP)
