THREE GROUP RACES AT THE CURRAGH: SHAMROCK previews the three Group races on the card at the Curragh on Sunday.
I’m hoping today might be easier than yesterday. It was a real head-scratcher day for me with both Coach House and Ruler Of The World disappointing and finishing out of the frame.
For those that take on the hotpots they would have had a field day – especially with Intensified getting turned over at 1/5 in the opener.
Now for Sunday.
2:35 Grangecon Stud Stakes (Fillies’ Group 3) (2yo, Class 1, 6f, 7 runners)
The market still seems allow too much fat in the price on Seamie Heffernan’s rides on the so-called second string Aidan O’Brien horses despite a series of results that have gone Heffernan’s way. In a case where there is little to choose between two stable compaions on form you can end up with three or more times the odds on the neglected one which is madness and has to be taken advantage of. Take this race where Bluebell is around 12 on BETDAQ and the Joseph O’Brien ridden Bye Bye Birdie around 5. Bluebell probably has scope for further improvement after her Limerick win and Bye Bye Birdie comes here after having her limitations exposed at Royal Ascot.
3:35 Oxigen Environmental Pretty Polly Stakes (Fillies’ Group 1) (3yo+, Class 1, 1m 2f, 10 runners)
It was a great disappointment not to see Alive Alive Oh take her place in the Ribblesdale field at Royal Ascot last week where the ground was considered too fast. She remains an exciting prospect but if you are backing her today you must still have lingering worries about the ground as it will only be marginally better today and if she truly is a soft ground filly than she will be vulnerable at this level. It’s a really tough call – but I’ll take a chance with the consistent La Collina on the BETDAQ place market.
5:15 At The Races Curragh Cup (Group 3) (3yo+, Class 1, 1m 6f, 7 runners)
A strong UK challenge with Glen’s Diamond for Richard Fahey and Mijhaar for Roger Varian who made all to win a Listed race at Hamilton and might well be good enough for this step-up in grade.
SHAMROCK’S BETS:
NAP: Mijhaar (5.15 Curragh)
NEXT BEST: Bluebell (2.35 Curragh)
PLACE: La Collina (3.35 Curragh)
