THREE MORE WINNERS MAKES 11 IN FIVE DAYS: Daqman added three more winners to his continuing tally yesterday – now 11 in five days – with Mighty Par (WON 11-4), Lexington Place (WON 11-4) and Along Again (WON 10-11).
BALLYDOYLE LACKING TALENT FOR THE OAKS: Check out Saturday’s Irish Oaks with Daqman’s stats-to-runners ABC guide. Home team leaders Ballydoyle have not won since 2008 and Talent heads the bid for a fifth consecutive English-based triumph.
IRISH OAKS ABC:
A: In first four in the Epsom Oaks (last 7 years out of 9)
B: Trained in England or by Aidan O’Brien (8 out of 9)
C: Three to six career runs, two or more that year (9 out of 9)
ABC TALENT I theorized that three-year-olds would develop late after the long wet winter but Talent’s rise from Listed level in the Newmarket Pretty Polly in May – only her third race – was quite phenomenal.
Related to Epsom Oaks winner, Bireme, and a daughter of New Approach, Talent went to Epsom a 20-1 chance but left the field standing, winner by nearly four lengths.
BC JUST PRETENDING Described by connections as a ‘difficult’ daughter of Giants Causeway but achieved top-class form after being hooded.
Followed up success in the Leopardstown 1,000 Guineas Trial by close third in the real thing at the Curragh, then second in the Ribblesdale.
BC RIPOSTE It was Riposte who won the Ribblesdale on only her third appearance on a racecourse after breaking her maiden at Newmarket in May.
By the leading British-based sire of Group-1 winners, Dansili, out of a Lancashire Oaks winner, and closely related to the dam of Frankel.
BC SAY Galileo filly who seems to have been around a long time, five of her career starts being this year. She showed steady improvement but took a leap forward last time out.
Though only 10th of 11 in the Epsom Oaks behind Talent, she stepped up on that in the Pretty Polly (Group 1), close fifth to older fillies.
B MAGICAL DREAM Her fourth to Sky Lantern in last September’s Moyglare looks good now but she was beaten six lengths on her reappearance by Alive Alive Oh.
The Galileo filly improved to run second in a Group 3, sandwiched in the frame between older mares from the pattern.
B MASARAH She’s run 15 times already including, at 40-1 and 100-1, a long way behind the best in the English and Irish 1,000, and the Coronation Stakes.
Clive Brittain was quoted as saying ‘nothing is out of the question.’ I think he was right. Nothing.
B MISS YOU TOO A 10-times-raced Montjeu who was 12 lengths off Talent in the Epsom Oaks, confirming the form of her 10 lengths defeat in the Lingfield Oaks Trial.
B VENUS DE MILO Supplemented for Saturday after winning the Oaks Trial at Naas, even though the form was afterwards confirmed by the placed horses as Listed level. But should improve after just two starts.
C ALIVE ALIVE OH A filly by Duke Of Marmalade, she has one of the highest official ratings for this, despite winning only her maiden and a Listed.
The six-lengths Listed win at Navan in May had racereaders reaching for the superlatives (‘exceptional turn of foot’). But she hasn’t been seen since and the runner-up was beaten in a Group 3 while the third flopped behind Venus De Milo.
C CHICQUITA Montjeu filly showed herself as quirky but talented as her sire when four-lengths runner-up in the Prix De Diane (French Oaks) to Treve, the filly bought by Sheikh Joaan, so now a likely Arc ride for Frankie Dettori.
The form looks solid with the Prix Saint-Alary winner in third, and the French 1,000 Guineas third in fourth place. It was only her third race, and her first since a bad fall.
C SCINTILULLA Sister to 1,000 Guineas runner-up Cuis Ghaire, she didn’t break her maiden until June. Afterwards beaten by a Ballydoyle colt who was scratched from the Irish Derby.
– TARANA The Aga Khan’s once raced daughter of Cape Cross – so suited by fast ground – not seen since winning her maiden last September. Should improve but needs a huge step up.
