TWO BETS FROM SHAMROCK THURSDAY: Included his next best Exogenesis WON 11/8 but it was a disappointing effort from Mars in second place.
There was no life on Mars. Last night at least.
Aidan O’Brien’s hot favourite couldn’t take advantage of the drop down in class at Leopardstown and for my money was disappointing.
When Joseph O’Brien gave him the signal to push on, Scintillula went with him and battled gamely on the rail for Kevin Manning.
Mars soon dropped away and that allowed Scintillula, who was making a swift reappearance having finished a close-up fourth in last weekend’s Irish Oaks, to triumph by two and three-quarter lengths.
Joseph O’Brien felt the sudden change in ground had gone against his mount. There was a tropical monsoon just before the race which turned the going rapidly to soft inside the final two furlongs.
He said: “He hated the ground. I quickened to go upsides the winner but in the straight the ground is soft, he was all over the place and couldn’t really get a hold of it.
I’m really not sure about Mars anymore. Perhaps on better ground at this level will bring about a win but I’m not sure he’ll be carrying the Shamrock Euro’s next time.
There are evening cards at Down Royal and Wexford this evening.
In the opening maiden hurdle at Wexford I thought Mutiska stood out in a field of really moderate sorts. She showed promise on her jumping debut at Gowran Park in fourth.
SHAMROCK’S BETS:
NAP: Mutiska (5.30 Wexford)
