SHAMROCK LANDS 6/4 WINNING NAP FROM ONLY BET OF THE DAY: SHAMROCK’S Wednesday NAP Along Came Casey won well at Gowran Park last night. She was hammered in the market and not even favourite on BETDAQ when SHAMROCK published his preview.
SHAMROCK (and the market !!) got it spot on last night in the Listed Hurry Harriet Stakes at Gowran Park.
There was a late flip-flop between the principals Along Came Casey and Say and backers got it right with Along Came Casey who won well by three lengths at 6/4.
The Group 3 Desmond Stakes is the feature on tonight’s Leopardstown card at 7.25pm.
It’s not a race in which Aidan O’Brien has excelled in (one winner this Millennium) but he has the hotpot favourite Darwin tonight who is trading around 1.71 on BETDAQ.
The ex-American trained runner has justified favouritism in both starts so far in Ireland and last time out won another Group 3 – the Minstrel Stakes at the Curragh beating Gordon Lord Byron by 1 3/4 lengths but the runner-up enjoys a hefty 8lb turnaround in the weights this evening.
That, in theory, will make it a lot closer but of the two you would certainly expect the three-year-old Darwin to be the one that can improve the most.
My strategy of opposing a three-year-old paid off yesterday and I’m not sure I want to get too involved with Darwin here at odds-on against a horse of his equal – on official ratings at least.
Sometimes BETDAQ can surprise you. I was expecting to see Three D Alexander at odds-on for the opening maiden so I am more than happy to take around 2.1.
Her close-up debut third to Tapestry at the Curragh has taken an obvious subsequent boost with Tapestry winning the Group 2 Debutante Stakes next time out at the Curragh.
