8-1 ASTAIRE AMONG THREE WINNERS FOR DAQMAN: Betdaq’s exclusive tipster, Saturday-king Daqman, landed three big winners in 45 minutes yesterday, including the 8-1 Middle Park star, Astaire. Here are his winners:
WON 3-1 SEEK AGAIN (York), 1 bet
WON 3-1 FIESOLANA (Newmarket), 1 bet
WON 8-1 ASTAIRE (Newmarket), 2 bets
27 POINTS PROFIT ON THE DAY: His profit on the day was more than 27 points, but his bid for four weekend big-race winners in a row, following 20-1, 8-1 and 4.8-1, came nearest through Chiberta King (Cesarewitch 4th 20-1 from 28.0 on BETDAQ).
21.0 VALUE IN IRISH CESAREWITCH: Daqman tries two more weekend big races in Ireland today. He’s Spring Heeled in the Munster National and has a Weather eye on the Irish Cesarewitch, in which he rates Mourani the value at 21.0.
4.40 The Curragh (Irish Cesarewitch) John Oxx goes for Cesarewitch win number 10 this afternoon. Six out of seven of them since 1990 have been three-year-olds, like Mourani.
Mourani, winner of the Apprentice Derby on the course in June, was third to Giant’s Quest and this morning’s favourite, Weather Watch, on his sole attempt at 2m.
The handicapper has applied his equalizer but Connor King’s 5lb claim off Weather Watch (10.5 on BETDAQ as I write) has swayed punters over Giant’s Quest (15.0) and Mourani (21.0), which makes Mourani look too big in the market.
English raider Montefeltro, one of the market leaders, is going for a hat-trick under claimer Robert Tart, the five-year-old improving late in life like many Mediceans.
In fact, he’s very lightly raced – a total of only nine runs on the CV – but his class-4 hurdles success over 2m 3f doesn’t mean he can win a fast-run 2m handicap on the Flat. It does mean he will be staying on, and he has won twice on good ground.
Rossvoss is an example of failure to switch from hurdles success to Flat, but Celestial Prospect of success in both spheres, though his Flat win was in much lower class than today.
Cullentry Royal is also among several late developers in this field -four runs, form figures 2211 – but he’s another who has to step up in grade.
Olympiad was second favourite for last year’s Newmarket Cesarewitch after winning at this level at York. It’s a tall order to score in this after one run since but is a wild card at 24.0.
Time For Action and Truthwillsetufree have been running in good company and it’s a question of whether they stay this far. There’s no help from their pedigree.
Tony Martin has booked Johnny Murtagh for Spacious Sky (13.0) and given the North Light four-year-old a pipeopener over hurdles.
DAQMAN’S ORDER IN: 1 Weather Watch, 2 Mourani, 3 Spacious Sky, 4 Time For Action, 5 Montefeltro, 6 Olympiad.
4.50 Limerick (Ladbrokes Munster National) Young lightweights win this: only one in the decade carried more than 10st 12lb; none were over the age of eight in the last nine seasons.
Tom Horn (9.4 offers on BETDAQ as I write) has a big weight turnaround with Double Seven but not much with Wise Oscar on their 1-2-3 at Kilbeggan in July.
Wise Oscar was well behind Muirhead at Listowel after that, but Muirhead hasn’t won a 3m chase for two years with no respite from the handicapper, and the problem with that Listowel form is that none of Questions Answered, Shot From the Hip and Gift Of Dgab – 4th, 5th and 6th – has ever won beyond 2m 4f. Not a one.
The ground is right for Sin Palo (he didn’t like it firm in Double Seven’s Kilbeggan race) but he’s done nothing yet to suggest he’s up to winning this.
The only other 3m winner of the right age is Heaney (10.5), who won a Graded hurdle at Galway last year and was third in the Pertemps Final at Cheltenham. He could show his class here.
However, Heaney (10.5) was not expected to beat odds-on Spring Heeled (8.4) when they met on heavy ground at Galway. Both will appreciate today’s better surface and Spring Heeled – an Old Vic with Barry Geraghty booked – looks primed for today.
DAQMAN’S ORDER IN: 1 Spring Heeled, 2 Tom Horn, 3 Heaney, 4 Wise Oscar, 5 Shot From The Hip, 6 Muirhead.
5.15 Goodwood As a Pivotal, Chesterfield (20.0 on BETDAQ this morning) could be a lot better than his fourth to Evangelist, Plutocracy (‘nonner’) and Quest For More at Bath, when something was amiss and he was eased out of contention.
His jockey, Mickael Barzalona, will know all about Squire Osbaldeston (ran too keenly on both runs at today’s trip) after running up to that one on Hawker at Lingfield.
Empress Adelaide, another Pivotal, has already won on the soft, and has Ryan Moore to do the steering for William Haggas.
Mark Johnston sends a raiding party down to his favourite track after the stable’s 66-1 shock by Scatter Dice in yesterday’s Cesarewitch.
DAQMAN’S NAP: Johnston’s Maid In Rio (4.15) is a big offer at 9.0 this morning against a firm-ground winner, Never To Be, and getting 13lb from the top weight, Black Caesar.
Caesar’s stable, that of Richard Hannon, trying to cement his trainers’ title, had a stinker yesterday: 030004030, when expected to do well.
