11-4 HIT BOOSTS PROFITS BEYOND 240-POINTS: Daqman did it again yesterday, a very worthwhile banker (Worthy Farm, supernap WON 11-4) taking him to 242.37 points profit from NINE winning naps out of ELEVEN, the last four consecutive (no losers this week). ‘STONE’ AHEAD IN LONG DISTANCE

LOSTINTRANSLATION TO BAG THIS

12.45 Newbury (Ladbrokes Chase) Can one of my horses to follow, The Last Day, prove himself here and become a Fortune Cookie for the future?

It’s a tough novice chase, and a handicap at that, and we’ll see if he can boost the list’s 171 points profit (20 point stakes).

1.50 Newbury (Ladbrokes Novices’ Chase) Another novice chase and another horse to follow from the list, Spiritofthegames. But I need cover on one getting weight from him today.

In a race won in the past by future Gold Cup heroes Bobs Worth and Coneygree, La Bague Au Roi, 11 times a winner from 16 starts, and Lostintranslation, just pipped by him on this course three weeks back, are formidable opponents.

Lostintranslation has always needed his first run after a break and is reckoned ‘a gorgeous horse’ now.

2.15 Doncaster The runner-up to Neachells Bridge at Hereford has scored 10 lengths since, and the winner should follow up while the sun shines.

Almost Gold – third in the Hereford race – needs rain and another half mile, and should make a price for the selection today.

‘STONE’ AHEAD IN LONG DISTANCE

3.00 Newbury (Ladbrokes Long Distance Hurdle) Superstar winners of this were rated from 161 to 174 (Big Buck’s won four times, and Thistlecrack took it in 2015). So Sam Spinner (top on 162) should be favourite.

He gives 6lb to the 2016 winner, Unowhatimeanharry, but Harry was almost 11 lengths behind him at levels in the Long Walk Hurdle at Ascot last December.

Also second last year, Harry is 10 now and has to catch up a couple of lengths on Wholestone on their reappearance race together at Aintree three weeks back.

But the form is muddied if you take in the festival results at Cheltenham and Aintree last Spring when Wholestone finished in front of Sam Spinner twice.

I left them both out of my horses to follow, to see what happens today. My verdict is for Wholestone.

If he wins, he becomes the season’s first Fortune Cookie, with this race such a strong pointer to Cheltenham.

LOOK OUT! HERE COMES THE JUGE

3.35 Newbury (Ladbrokes Handicap Hurdle) Stamina broke Dragon D’Estruval’s duck over hurdles in his very first race for Nicky Henderson in the Spring, and he’s stepped up even further for his return today.

But, soon to go chasing, he has to give 13lb to another French bred, Juge Et Parti, who travels well and stays well, and was the gamble of the night for this when betting opened.

De Name Evades Me’s Cheltenham conqueror, Dinons, flopped in the Monksfield at Navan on the last day.

Bobo Mac looked improved for a wind op when runner-up in a big field over today’s Newbury CD three weeks ago. They’ve tweaked his wind again since.

Vive Le Roi (what, another Frenchman!) has shot up two stone with form figures of 22112 taking him through the grades to a narrow defeat in October by First Assignment (Listed winner and Graded placed since).

Coral Cup winner Aux Ptits Soins (French yet again) was runner-up in the Rendlesham when switched back to hurdles from fences in the Spring of 2017, but the Skeltons seem to be in no hurry with him, despite his eight years.

Juge Et Parti is unexposed for Nigel Twiston-Davies and must surely go all out for this off a featherweight (due to go up 8lb).

Also down in the weights (another who can’t miss such a chance), Rockpoint could improve for a trip but the plan is novice chasing.
