DUBLIN THE HOPE FOR A QUALITY WEEKEND: They’ve switched around the races – putting Saturday chasing down the card – in the hope of preserving the track for racing for racing at Leopardstown on Sunday as well as tomorrow’s opening day of the Dublin Festival. The mares’ allowance takes Apple’s Jade clear of her Champion Hurdle field, according to Daqman’s ratings today. But there’s only the odd pound separating the four leading contenders for the Gold Cup.

STAR-NAME JOCKEYS RIDING ON AW TODAY: No Jumps racing today but how bad if we have Ryan Moore riding at Lingfield and Rachael Blackmore over for Newcastle this evening. Lingfield passed a morning inspection and could deputise on terrestrial TV tomorrow if English Jumps tracks are unraceable, as seems likely.

GOLDEN OPPORTUNITY AT 7.0

4.15 Newcastle Sticking to class 4 and hoping they run to form. We were on four-times course winner Portledge in the class-4 race at Newcastle yesterday but one that had scored a grade higher beat us half a length at 12-1.

The class standout in this one is Golden Wolf, who has been running in class 2 since he was second over the Classic distance at the Epsom Derby meeting in June.

Rachael Blackmore, fresh from a winner for Joseph O’Brien at Down Royal on Tuesday is over here for the one ride.

The worry is that the horse (tongue tie first time) was a drifter this morning, 7-2 to 5-1 with bookmakers, though always a generous 7.0 on BETDAQ.

Claire Underwood (3.7) and Loud And Clear (4.8) were in front in the market. Claire Underwood, a class-4 winner at less than 10f, is unexposed at today’s 1m 4f. Significant stable stat is that, of only four horses at 4-1 or shorter SP recently, three have won. Loud And Clear has had three wins here at Newcastle.

I can get double my money a place bet on Golden Wolf, so win at 7.0 for 30 points and place to win 10 insurance on BETDAQ is the way to approach this one.

6.15 Newcastle Blame Culture was half a length third in a race of winners over CD here 10 days ago.

We have Johnny Murtagh over from Kildare with Prosecution but the evidence I present to this court is that the horse is only 1-20.

There is always confidence behind Glory of Paris, whose stable is back to form with figures of 10101 in the last two days. Favourite four times in a row in December and January, Glory of Paris won two of them.

It’s a tough call but a line through a horse called Rey Loopy puts Blame Culture in front and I nap him for a bit of value. Or am I being loopy!

* Lingfield is on this afternoon but fields have cut up badly. I’ll include Ryan Moore’s mount, Water’s Edge (2.55), in some Daq Multiples.
