ALWAYS A PLACE FOR DAQMAN: Daqman is always thereabouts in the big handicaps, and he landed another return with the place part of a bet on Projection (4th 14-1 from 18.5 on BETDAQ) to go 54-24 up on Pricewise on day one of the Newmarket July Meeting yesterday.

BETDAQ 42.0 WAS PRICELESS! But he could have had another place return from his short list for the same race if he hadn’t funked a bet on Priceless (2nd 25-1 from 42.0 on BETDAQ) because it seemed too big in the market. ‘Sometimes Betdaq offers are just unbelievable,’ says our man.

GOLD BANKER TODAY: Today’s Fortune Cookie is 20 points win on Usherette (4.15 Newmarket), boosted to 30 points in the Falmouth Stakes as a Gold Banker.

ROYAL PLOT HORSES? IT’S ELEMENTARY!

Look out for plot horses. I call some of them ‘hidden horses’, so well hidden I missed one myself yesterday! Big Orange sprang a surprise at 25-1 last year; as big a surprise to me at 8-1 this.

Protection might have been my big hit had George Baker not got the beast baulked behind the main bunch. Sorry to do a bit of grandstanding, George; but better you’d buried him altogether!

What are we searching for as the year wears on? Lightly raced ones; those who’ve suffered the soft ground and will now come into their own on firmer; trainers Mark Johnston, Andrew Balding, Luca Cumani.

We’ll have a look at the Newmarket handicaps for such a plot but first the elementary ones at Musselburgh, where Michael Bell, responsible for Big Orange, has two runners for The Queen on the day she visits the track.

My usual bet would be ‘stop at a winner’, adding a small double on the two. I happily grabbed 5.7 Elementary (2.50) this morning to win 30 but Forecaster (3.25) was 2.82 favourite, so I just did a stakes saver on that one, making a note to check the market later.

But I did the small double anyway, figuring that, if Elementary won, Forecaster would be no bigger than that early-mouse offer.

CREDENCE IN CLEAR WATER REVIVAL..

2.05 Newmarket Richard Hannon and owner, Richard Tyrrell, are excited about the eponymous Mr Tyrrell (win and place price at 6.0 BETDAQ`offers.

The colt was going to be one of my whispers; then R Hannon blurted it out to Channel-4 viewers yesterday But that ‘s such a small audience, we still get a price!

Mr Tyrrell is by the superfast Aussie sire Helmet (Exceed And Excel) out of an Oasis Dream mare. So should have wings..

2.40 Newmarket Forecast firm ground has robbed me of one of the handicap lotteries I like: 17 and 19 runners produced winners at 12-1 and 50-1 in this in 2007 and 2011.

Three-year-olds do well in this, and Clear Water, Blair House (needs soft), Column (has been gelded) and Mediciman are all saved up for top of the ground.

Mickael Barcelona warms up for the big ride on Usherette in the Falmouth aboard 9.4 offer Mediciman from a maiden that has produced winners, including one at Royal Ascot. Clear Water (6.6) looks poised to come back from a break for the burgeoning Godolphin team.

3.10 Newmarket Daniel Muscutt has had two rides for James Fanshawe on this track: one winner and placed. Permission ‘could be anything’. Worth a pound at 7.4 on BETDAQ this morning.

CODE NOT NEEDED TO FATHOM BLETCHLEY

3.45 Newmarket (Cherry Hinton Duchess Of Cambridge Stakes) Only occasionally throws up a 1,000 Guineas winner these days (Attraction 2004) but is a fascinating contest.

The market says it’s between Bletchley and Nasimi. The entries say it’s between Roly Poly and Kilmah, the only two entered in Group-1 races, who could both improve in the conditions.

But Bletchley, a winner on firm ground at Nottinghan, was second in the Albany at Royal Ascot (pacemaking Kilmah behind).

There’s not much between Kilmah and Seafront on May form and between Seafront and Roly Poly on Curragh form.

As I said in my column on Tuesday (see Daqman Archive), I am standing by the Albany form of Brave Anna and Bletchley (3.7 this moring) until it’s proved against me.

GOLD-BANKER USHERETTE SHOWS WAY

4.15 Newmarket (Falmouth Stakes) Four-years-old are 6-4 up on the Classic generation in the decade, one of them a French winner in 2012.

And Usherette for my Fortune Cookies, which requires a 20-point bet, to which I’ll add 10 points and make her a Gold Banker.

4.45 Newmarket Autocratic’s form has been let down by half a dozen in his Sandown maiden in June but the horse whisperer of racing, Sir Michael Stoute, is a master at improving his animals, and there is a good word for it from the touts.

Banksea (Cumani) may also have improved since June but the trainer to be with is surely Mark Johnston, going for a four-timer in this. Unfortunately, he has a trio of runners; any one of them could emulate his previous success at 25-1, 12-1, 8-1 and 13-2.

Johnston declares for Bathos. So does James Doyle. So what’s he doing out at 18.0? We must have a pound. Derby runner Biodynamic could be worth a place bet at a colossal 48.0, previously in the frame behind US Army Ranger at Chester.
