NO BRIDGE TOO FAR
⭕ 1.35 Ayr The ground will be knee deep at Ayr this afternoon ensuring this 3m handicap hurdle will be a real test of stamina.
That should prove music to the ears to the connections of O’Hanrahan Bridge who can continue the good recent form of trainer Donald McCain.
The eight-year-old doesn’t have that many miles on the clock and relished his first experience of heavy ground when winning by seven lengths at Carlisle earlier in the month.
It was also his first try over this trip under Rules and he should again relish the test – even though Ayr is less demanding than Carlisle.
The negatives are that he is up 5lb and it didn’t look a particularly strong contest at Carlisle, but this might not take two much winning either.
Two of his four rivals are out of the handicap and Legalized, chief rival on BETDAQ BETTING EXCHANGE, has two career wins to her name but they have both come over 2m 4f.
A bigger danger may come from Bryden Boy who gets ticks in the distance and going boxes but needs to show plenty more than he did at Aintree last time out.
GOLD TURNS TO SILVER
⭕ 3.20 Fakenham As usual, not huge fields at Fakenham and one of the more interesting races on the card is the concluding handicap chase at 3.20.
The starting point has to be Gold Fields who romped home by 18 lengths over course and distance on the 17 November.
He was beaten under his statutory (7lb) penalty next time out at Sedgefield (last week) and now races off a mark 12lb higher than his win here on the 17th.
Apart from the hike in the weight – the three races in quick succession must also be a cause for concern.
I prefer the chance of Court Jurado (another today trained by Donald McCain) who is hard to win with but has shown enough recently to suggest his form is right up there and could prove hard to peg back on a course that often favours front runners.
I’VE SEEN THE LIGHT
⭕ 6.20 Wolverhampton This class 2 handicap, sponsored by Ladbrokes, is very much the highlight on the Wolverhampton card.
John Gosden’s Moonlight In Paris ran well in Listed company at Doncaster last time out but I’m not so keen on her 8lb rise in the weights – in addition to her trying the all-weather for the first time.
Elegant Light can continue the superb run of trainer Ralph Beckett – now an outstanding 7 winners from his last 12 runners.
She ran well enough at Lingfield in Listed company last time out having previously finished fourth at Goodwood in another Listed race. This should prove an easier assignment.
