TON-UP STILL ON TRACK? YOU BET! When will we see this ton-up bet of yours, Daqman? Our man chickened out at the weekend – and rightly so as it happened – from increasing his stakes to win 100. His results dipped after a spree of 10 winners netting 120 points. Today he looks ahead at some of the big races that might earn bankers or ton-ups.

DAQMAN LEADS PRICEWISE 98-36: Cocktail Queen (WON 32-5) and Solow (WON 6-4) at Deauville and Carla Bianca (WON 5-4) at The Curragh were winners for Daqman yesterday in his Eurozone round-up. The Daqman v. Pricewise value challenge remains at 98-36 to Daqman, after Hasanour (3rd 4-1) was third in the Irish Cambridgeshire.

BIG SIX FEATURE RACES IN SEPTEMBER

Haydock Sprint, Saturday (September 6) Gordon Lord Byron is around 6.0 with BETDAQ layers to repeat last year’s victory for Tom Hogan in the Haydock Sprint on Saturday.

Though only 7-1 with Corals, BETDAQ offers about Tropics this morning ranged around 10.5. Ladbrokes and Hills had Extortionist at 10-1 but there was 17.5 available in the BETDAQ orange.

Hot Streak was the biggest anomaly: as low as 10-1 with Betfred, 12-1 with Ladbrokes, Hot Streak could be had at 20.0 on BETDAQ.

Irish Champion Stakes (September 13, Leopardstown) Unless there is a change of plan, Australia will be long odds on to make this win numero six out of seven, his only blip being his third in the Newmarket 2,000 Guineas.

This year’s winning hat-trick has taken in the English Derby and Irish Derby and the International at York, total earnings thus far £1,932, 170.

Doncaster Ladbrokes St Leger (September 13) Kingston Hill, runner-up to Australia in the Epsom Derby, remains favourite all round for the St Leger, which appears to be the trip he’s been looking for all season. The 10-furlong Eclipse was far too short last time he ran.

Irish St Leger (September 14, The Curragh) The day after Australia’s Champion Stakes at Leopardstown, last year’s Doncaster St Leger winner, Leading Light, would be another odds-on starter for Ballydoyle in this, following on his Ascot Gold Cup triumph.

Ayr Gold Cup (September 20) Stats for the big sprint at Ayr – which will again be broken down in to gold, silver and bronze races – show that horses from four to six years old have won 18 from 19, six out of nine in the narrow weights range of 8st 13lb to 9st 2lb. Last year’s winner, Highland Colori.

Cambridgeshire (September 27, Newmarket) Some 10 of the last 12 winners were below the age of six, including a trio of three-year-olds. Winningmost weight range is 8st 7lb to 9st 3lb (eight out of nine). Last year’s winner, Educate.

DAVY’S A CORKER! AND THAT’S A FACT

Results for the nap are now 12113012122. Don’t you just hate those near misses, like The Game Changer yesterday. He finished too late to catch the race leader at Cork, given a bit too much to do by jockey Johnny Burke.

But it’s unfair to judge either The Game Changer or Johnny Burke on the one run, and both horse and 5lb claimer will be in the public eye this winter.

BRIGHTON: Where to go for the nap today? Brighton is one of my least favourite tracks, and I shall immediately pass the opening ‘seller’, albeit sponsored by Ian Carnaby (you owe me one, Ian; so long ago, John Hughes bought the last round).

He’s a brave man – and that applies to a couple of dozen others still with sand in their shoes – who will stand on that hill, sea fretted and rained on (‘60% chance of precipitation’). Much as I love a day’s sport, I’ll stay in the warm and feed my mouse some titbits from the BETDAQ orange.

Someone else who’s a bit cheesed off with the place is Brian Meehan. According to the Raving Post, he’s saddled 43 runners in 3,304 days racing there and not a sausage.

So, sticking to my food idioms, I won’t be having a bean on his Francis Scott Key (3.30). He was well behind Dream Approval and The Dapper Tapper at Lingfield.

In what passes for a handicap these days (9lb separates top and bottom), I fancy Gen I Am (7.0 on BETDAQ this morning), with Cam Hardie’s claim giving the weights some length so that the filly gets a stone from the top one. She raced at Leicester as though she needed this step up to 7f.

First-time hooded Light Of Asia and Darting (4.00) quickly fronted the market for the Brighton & Hove Handicap so, with little seen for the rest, I took a bit of 5.0 Darting, saving on t’other one.

HUNTINGDON Tony McCoy is so far ahead of the game, he sets records so that he has something to aim at, and any one of his rides at Huntingdon could be a winner, with his clout and enthusiasm lifting so many home that would otherwise remain among the dross.

The strange thing is that some of them go on to do well enough, as though McCoy invigorates not just for the day but for their career lives. He’s no Killer McCoy.

But there’s more Irish genius at Huntingdon today, another who takes the cork out of the bottle and lets a horse’s genie out, a man also absolutely flying at the moment. And can we ever forget Davy Russell’s fantastic Cheltenham of Gold Cup and Triumph Hurdle.

As with McCoy, the adversities of the game and the portent of defeat bring out the best in Davy, who is currently 102101310 in his native Ireland, including yesterday on his local course at Cork.

I think we should take the hint that Davy has come over to ride Saddlers Deal (2.50) and That’s A Fact (4.20). Since Saddler’s Deal is around 5.0 and That’s A Fact a shade below 4.0, I shall back them stop at a winner, with cover for the first bet added to my stake on the second horse if a follow-up is needed.

LEICESTER Another travelling man today is Rod Millman, taking Biotic (5.10 Leicester) on a 366-mile round trip from Devon to another drizzling day, this one at Leicester

Biotic – Ted Durcan booked – should make the winners’ enclosure, courtesy of the 12lb he gets from Elizona, with second, third and fourth in his Sandown success all winners since: 5.5 on BETDAQ for a sporting nap.

DAQMAN’S BETS (each staked to win 20 points)
BET 5pts win SADDLERS DEAL (2.50 Huntingdon), if lose 8.3pts win THAT’S A FACT (4.20 Huntingdon)
BET 3.3pts win GEN I AM (3.30 Brighton)
BET 5pts win DARTING and 2.5pts win (stakes saver) LIGHT OF ASIA (4.00 Brighton)
BET 4.4pts win (nap) BIOTIC (5.10 Leicester)
