16-0 ‘ROCKY’ ON SMOOTH TRAJECTORY TO CHELTENHAM: Daqman buys some 16.0 on BETDAQ about Rocky Creek for the RSA Chase at Cheltenham, with only 10-1 available with bookmakers.

CHOICE WINNER AT 7-4: Camachoice (WON 7-4) kept Daqman in front yesterday for one winner from three selections.

We’re looking after him; taking our time with him. When a trainer says that, particularly if he’s the champion trainer, that horse is one for the notebook. And if the horse’s trajectory is aimed at Cheltenham, then you need value for an ante-post interest. And that means BETDAQ.

The horse in question is Paul Nicholls’ Rocky Creek, 10-1 with most bookmakers but 16.0 on BETDAQ this morning, in an RSA Chase dominated by Dynaste and Boston Bob.

The trajectory of any Cheltenham horse must be an upward curve, and Rocky Creek’s two out of two over fences has pleased connections and already projected him into the first three in the market for the RSA.

Dynaste is a worthy favourite after winning three major novice events (Steel Plate and Sections, Berkshire, Feltham) but Ditcheat devotees have been dissing Boston Bob, the second favourite.

The Albert Bartlett runner-up over hurdles at last year’s Festival, he has had only one run over fences and the form of that race, when he won at 5-1 on, may have been let down.

Boston Bob beat You Must Know half a length at Navan before that one trailed in 22 lengths third of four at Punchestown at the very end of last year.

You Must Know was said to be lame after that follow-up flop, and we desperately need to see Boston Bob in action again before we know whether stable opinion of him is justified.

In fact, he’s likely to go all or nothing in the Dr P J Moriarty Chase at Leopardstown on Sunday week, the kingmaker trial in Ireland. The P J Moriarty has twice thrown up RSA winners in the last four years in Cooldine and Bostons Angel.

It’s the same story with the Arkle: winners of that championship race have all had three to five chases on their CV before Cheltenham.

At this stage, Simonsig, Overturn and Captain Conan have only had two and connections are anxious that races on Saturday at Sandown (Captain Conan) and next weekend (Simonsig has two engagements) will beat the weather.

At Wolverhampton today, the mare Asterism (3.30) is near enough evens with most outlets, yet has two big black marks against her name: she hasn’t been seen in public for 503 days and her trainer, Ian Williams, is out for form.

Wiliams hasn’t had a winner from 16 runners in six weeks and, though sellers are a difficult race to bet in, every race today at such low levels is difficult to bet in.

I’ll risk the lay on the grounds that two last-time winners are in the line-up and, in fact, every one of Asterism’s opponents was in the frame last time out.

Bitaphon (5.00 has been placed at Wolver twice recently and this is not a hard race in which to step up on that.

He’s getting four years from Spinning Ridge, and there’s no indication in the betting that blinkers on Code Six are going to make a big difference.

DAQMAN’S BETS
LAY 10pts ASTERISM (3.30 Wolverhampton)
BET 6.6pts win (nap) BITAPHON (5.00 Wolverhampton)
ANTE-POST: WIN-30 JACKPOT: BET 2pts win ROCKY CREEK (RSA Chase, Cheltenham)

* Daqman’s bets are staked to win 20 points, so you know the offer he took (20 divided by the stake). A jackpot bet is one in which he steps up his stake to win more than 20 (as stated).
